Austin Music Network Finally Goes Under

AUSTIN MUSIC NETWORK OFF THE AIR SEPTEMBER 1
It is with deep regret that we announce that the City of Austin’s longtime non-profit local music channel, The Austin Music Network (AMN) will disappear from Time Warner channel 15 on September 1st and be replaced with a new commercial channel from the Austin Music Partners and Time Warner.

The staff of AMN would like to thank everyone that has been a part of the past 11 years of developing the world’s only local 24/7 music and film channel. We are extremely proud of the fact that over the last few years we have achieved all the goals and demands requested from the City including becoming financially self sufficient (off the City tab), producing award winning quality programming for every section of our local community, creating an outlet for local independent film and TV projects, training dozens of local high school and college students in television production, providing a broadcast home for numerous local producers, promoting hundreds of local events and artists, and becoming a true component of Austin’s creative community. We will miss serving you.

There is still hope that AMN will continue to serve Austin through our current web streaming capabilities. For the last few years, AMN has broadcast 24/7 to the world on www.austinmusicnetwork.org. Response has been overwhelming and worldwide viewership is now continuous. Knowing for quite some time that we would lose our Time Warner broadcast space, AMN has worked very hard with the City and other internet partners to insure the possibility for AMN to continue to promote all of Austin’s music and film to a worldwide audience and develop avenues in new technology that will enable AMN to continue to grow.

AMN is currently one of only two 24/7 live stream internet television stations in the country supporting Austin’s place as a leader in the use of internet technology.

AMN has requested to the City of Austin the opportunity to continue to broadcast over the internet as long as AMN is financially self sufficient and providing an important service to our local community and fans of Austin music and film everywhere. That decision must be made within the next few weeks or AMN will be dismantled and disappear from face of the earth forever on September 1st.

Isn't this some ? They gave AMN so much , just because it was non-profit, and bringing no money to the almighty Time Warner....after years and years of fighting, it's finally lost its fight. Now we're going to get another MTV thats solely designed to make money and turn in viewers. I had no idea AMN was the ONLY non-profit 24/7 music video network in the WORLD!
Now I'll never see another Cruiserweight video again.

The whole of Austin Public Access Television has been slowly removed off the air for the past year or so. They took away a couple already and gave us hispanic channels.

Alex Jones has been a huge proponent of keeping the ACTV open to the public and free. To the 'paranoid' american, Jones may even be the sole reason they've been eliminating public access.

Can't have un-american, non-government conspiracy theorists getting people to believe crazy things, right?

First they were funded by the city

then when they tried to make AMN go under, the city made them find their own funding
they did all of this and AMN has been funded by donations and stuff, leaning less and less on city resources, yet they still find a bull reason to take it off the air

they're going to make the new channel play music approved by TIME WARNER and also make it mandatory to include more "well known" artists...
