There's been quite a few old school Duncan highlights uploaded since the Spurs won the championship, a lot of them are scattered around Youtube on less known channels , just saw his 40 point game against the Mavs in 03 yesterday

    Thanks son

Hard to find Jazz fans that appreciate Duncan tbh. It's usually hate because of Mr. Malone.

Dont mention it, I also uploaded a couple of Duncans playoff games from 03 to my channel like 3 years ago.

But yea all the videos I just posted were uploaded on youtube randomly in the last month. I think it a post championship surge

I took a moment the other day to watch the highlights of this series on Youtube (I was very young when it took place so I don't remember it very well, only that Latrell Spreewell was the devil according to my dad). But anyways, while watching, I was shocked at how offensively challenged we seemed to be. I've gone back and watched the 03 Championship highlights too, and it's the same thing. Throw the ball in the post, and let Duncan go to work. I can see now how the Spurs got the mantra of being boring, I mean, even the highlights were boring. Seriously, the scores were in the 70's every game. I shudder to think what today's 2014 Spurs woould have done to that 99 team, or the 2003 one. We didn't seem to be a very good team, and yet I remember the Lakers were incredible during those years, and somehow we got past them, so...maybe we were.

Duncan was getting 10x the touches he was back then than he is today. and it's not just because he was younger. It was truly a different NBA. Role players were just that--guys who stood around the key with the sole objective of spacing the floor and allowing the stars to go to work. IMO, the basketball IQ on the offensive end has skyrocketed since then, and the NBA is much better to watch. It's no wonder to me now that Jordan won 6 Championships when the concept of team basketball had yet to be invented yet. It was an era where the best player in the NBA won the Championship and that was it. Not so anymore.

The defenses were different as well, there was a period of the early 2000's where both zone defenses and Handchecking were allowed. Teams were scoring below 80 on the regular

If young/prime TD's teams had the same system and similar role players as the '14 team, I think he gets more les, but the catch is that he probably won't be recognized as the greatest PF all time since he wouldn't have to carry those
    teams, IMO.

Right after that Mario Elie dunk at the 33 second mark New York called timeout and my brother, a couple of friends, and I got a huge cheer from the Dome when they showed our huge "YOU CAN'T SPELL BELIEVE WITHOUT ELIE" sign on the JumboTron. Good times.

What's amazing to me is how outside of Timmy and some highlights of a young Tony, none of the guys (on either team) in 1999-2003 highlights are around anymore. Many flamed out in the mid-2000's or were corpses by 2008/2009.

Timmy's longevity is awe-inspiring. He has literally played through very different eras of the NBA, but through persistent conditioning and internal improvement, he has remained relevant and elite when he is most needed. At 38. lol.

It's my ringtone. I frequently pull it up before watching a game.

My biggest regret as fan was not being able to watch Spurs games regularly during the apogee of Duncan's career when he was arguably the greatest player in the world.

I hate having to rely on these internet vids to get a scope of how good he was.

97-2000 Timmy pre ankle surgery was unbelievable.. So fluid and smooth and even athletic.. I Lol when people say he was never athletic.. athleticism is much more than jumping tbh.. you rarely see a 7 footer with the sort of agility and lateral movement Tim had early on.

Dwight Howard can jump high.. But he could never move as fluidly as a young Tim IMO.

Me too. Well said. His combination of quickness, balance and footwork made him incredibly athletic.

Anyone have that video of TD killing Portland in 2000 after Robinson got ejected?
