Maker's remarkable past explains his extraordinary present. Like Manute Bol and Luol Deng, he's descended from the Dinka people, one of South Sudan's largest ethnic groups and one of the tallest in the world.

Maker's parents are no exception. His mother measures around 6'3". His father checks in at 6'8". His younger brother, Matur, has been marked between 6'10" and 6'11".

Many of Maker's remarkable prerequisites—foot speed, balance, coordination, vision and understanding of passing angles—can be traced back to soccer fields. His upbringing in a game that demands ball movement and teamwork has made Maker surprisingly unselfish for a player of his size and skill, particularly in an AAU basketball culture that so often fosters and caters to the me-first mentality.

"Some people think I should be selfish every single time," Maker quipped.

In some ways, Maker is, though largely on the defensive end. His long limbs and lateral quickness allow him to cover more ground than most.

Said Smith: "If he gets drafted by the [San Antonio] Spurs, he’ll be an All-Star."

Seems to have good skills for his size but so did Ryan Richards and he couldn't even stick with a decent overseas team. We'll see.

Thon's potential is real. Sure, some HS players don't pan out once they make their transition to college, but Maker already has a set of tools unique for his 7'0 frame (and growing). He already has a handler that is making sure he gets the best development and is very selective with programs.

Once in a while you have athletic freaks with unlimited potential who also towers over their compe ions, Maker is in the same group like Durant, KG, Lebron when they were in HS though his game is not as polished but no reason to believe it won't come. Only question is how will he handle off court distractions which always affects a players work ethic especially at this crucial stage.

He's not an explosive, nor fluid athlete. If he embraces his height and develops low post, he was a periphery skillset to have a similar impact like Anthony Davis, but right now he's convinced he's Durant, and he's just not coordinated at that level.

He's good. But he's not even the top player in his 2016 class, and without a shift in mentality, I'm not sure he's much more than a taller Shareef Abdur-Rahim.
