"Raymell Mourice "Ray" Rice (born January 22, 1987) was a professional American football running back for the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for Rutgers University and was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft. At the end of his career, his was ranked as the Ravens' second all-time leading rusher behind Jamal Lewis (7,801) with 5,940 yards, and also second in attempts (1,273). He was ranked second all-time for rushing touchdowns (37) and third for combined touchdowns (43) in Ravens history.

Rice was arrested and subsequently indicted for third-degree aggravated assault on March 27, 2014 relating to an incident where he punched his girlfriend in the face.[1] The blow knocked her unconscious.[2] The incident became a prominent controversy after TMZ released a video of the encounter, which lead to an NFL policy change regarding how it handles domestic violence cases. Rice's contract was terminated by the Ravens on September 8, 2014 following the release of an additional video of the incident."
