Blazers: Fan finds way to remain loyal to his favorite team (Trail Blazers) and player (Dirk)

Cole Watson display his split loyalties in the hybrid uniform he wore to Thursday's Blazers-Mavericks game.

Cole Watson is a tried-and-true Portland guy who is big fan of the Trail Blazers. But his favorite NBA player is Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki.

"I guess I just picked him at a young age," Watson said. "I liked the way he shot the basketball."

Watson attended Thursday's game between the Blazers and Mavericks at the Moda Center, and found a way to stay true to his seemingly conflicting loyalties.

He took a Nowitzki jersey and one from the Blazers' Wesley Matthews, folded each in half, put them together and created a hybrid uniform.

"As long as I could remember, I had the little Dirk jersey, and I had the
Portland jersey," he said "It's always been the Blazers and Dirk. I don't know. I just kind of pinned it together, something to represent both teams, I guess."

Watson, who works at a Safeway and is studying to be a firefighter, said he took a pragmatic approach to the Blazers-Mavericks playoff series in 2011.

"I always want Dirk to drop 40, but I always want the Blazers to win," he said.

it's nothing new about Portland imho. They always start the season strong but begin to decline fast after Christmas, settling for a 6-7th seed then getting eliminated in the first round or 2nd at best.

Portland is a gimmick team that doesn't play any form of defense, they're the same as last year, tbh..

Mavs have historically sucked ass at the Rose Garden so it's no surprise they got spanked. Props for the fan wearing a jersey like that knowing that others would give him about it.
