That's just wrong, if he posts this in the NO thread than it could get passed up when a new page hits, and the point he needs to get across won't be gotten.
As far as major cities go, New Orleans is one of the poorest. Their bussing and trolly system is in place out of necessity - tens of thousands (if not more) do not have any type of transportation other than public.
So as many here in Texas and elsewhere are talking about all the 'idiots' who aer staying in New Orleans - there is actually a legit reason. Thousands of people cannot get out. Many of those will not ever get out.

Tom, you're absolutely right. So many people there just can't leave. The poor are going to take this one right on the chin, and they are going to suffer the worst.

Is the city/state trying to help out in any way at all?
I tknink a program of bussing would help.. i mean.. this is a HUGE EMERGENCY thats just knocking at thier dorrstep. .you'd think they'd use every citybus, school bus, charter bus, grayhound bus, and short bus they had on hand.
even dealerships could donate thier 15 passenger vans... they'd be saving part of thier inventory at least.
but mostly "lets get to gether and do some good here people"...... sigh. But it never works out in real life the way it does in big blockbuster disaster movies.
They are only going to let 30k people into the Superdome. And they are searching mother ing bags!!!

I teach scuba diving on the side. A couple of weeks ago we had this 14 year old kid in there who had the maturity of a 5 year old (he failed out of the class).
Sad thing is I think he's more mature than you.
I get that there are tons of people without a means to get out of the city, and yes it's sad and horrific. What I don't get is the "idiots" who choose to stay when they have means of getting out and then choose to go to the bar to party it up, not realizing the magnitutude of this hurricane/monster.

Hmm, I heard 50K for the Superdome. Don't blame them for searching bags for guns and what not.
Now, the mayor deserves an ass whipping for waiting as long as he did. YESTERDAY they should have been commandeering buses, vans, whatever, and trucking people out of NO as fast as they could. Lots of people are going to die because of his inaction until the point of no return (this morning).
You just can't physically evac that many people in what amounts to about 18 hours before the hits the fan.
Well, landfall may not be untill tomorrow morning, but by this evening the will hit the fan. Those winds extend a long way from the center.
They expect the lower levels and field at the dome to be flooded. Insane.

This is about the thousands of people that may be dead tomorrow because they are too poor to get out of the city.
I grew up in New Orleans, and I will be there a couple days after Katrina. Most of the people here are Texans or foriegners - people that may not really know much about New Orleans and may be interested in what is happening and how things that may not be reported are impacting the city and surrounding areas.
Time and place, dumbass. Go to quattro. This is serious stuff. The destruction on 9/11 is going to be considered child's play compared to Katrina.
People have already died.
