When Kobe hit the FT that took him to 3rd on the all-time regular season scoring list and behind Karl Malone, I sat there beyond embarrassed as they stopped the game to honor such a meaningless accomplishment. I could see if Kobe ascended to 1st on the all-time scoring list. Now that would be kind of (it is a regular season record, after all) worthy of all the phony hugs from teammates and ESPN front page coverage, but he didn't. Nothing happened at all, actually. No records broken. No once-in-a-lifetime performance. Nothing. All we saw was a guy who's played since Grunge music was still relevant shoot himself into 4635 less points than Karl Malone.
I don't get it.
This is the equivalent of hanging a division championship banner or something.
