Supposedly chaging it to signal his "rebirth" in conjunction with a Nike marketing campaign. How bogus.

look, right now his jersey isnt really selling, and its a mix of reasons. One is obviously because of the rape, which he cant do anything about now,another because of the hate he gets for dismantling the lakers, which he cant do anything about now,
and the fact that a whole lot of people already have his number 8 jersey.
A new number would give fans of his a chance to buy another jersey of his.
Look at last years highest sellers, they were tmac and shaq, 2 players who have gotten new jerseys(tmac new jersey,shaq new jersey and number).

So the only thing he can control right now is his jersey number, so if he changes it , it will be so he can sell more jerseys.
