I don't normally care about this stuff, still don't tbh. I just find it interesting that Jordan did a bunch of stuff that today's stars could not get away with. IF Lebron had punched Birdman, Bosh and Chalmers because of a hard screen in practice we would talk about how mentally fragile he is. Jordan will still get praised as the "ultimate compe or". Funny how media perceptions of players shape the narrative. That is why I ignore most of their bull . To read the story click below. Horace apparently has gotten over his MJ butthurt reminiscing on the glory days ...

Michael Jordan was legend for going after teammates in practice — not just talking trash and playing hard, I mean physically go after them and throw punches. Steve Kerr got it once. Jud Buechler another.

“Our practices were so intense because Phil, the mastermind behind everything, would put MJ on the second team, me and Scottie would be on the first team, and being compe ive like he was, man. Unreal, unreal. Of course punches got thrown, many fights. I’m just so happy that social media wasn’t (around) back then.”

“.. Typical Phil (Jackson) we run this play and Will set an illegal pick on MJ, and MJ said,’Will, don’t do that again.’ ‘Whatcha talking about’ that’s Will. MJ says alright; Phil says run it again. So naturally we run it two more times, illegal pick. MJ walks up to Will — boom. Lit him up. It was over; we grabbed Will — you’re not going to hurt MJ ...”

again I dont condone fighting a team-mate, but I get it. I also dont think it makes him a bad leader or person (though he might be). Just saying that even without Twitter etc. how much MJ got away with that many would crucify other stars for. Still the GOAT but interesting stuff.

Kerr, Will and others probably didn't punch back because they can't afford to lose MJ as a basketball player

Lebron would never hit anyone. He'd bow up and make a production out of it. Then the coaches would step in and order the guy not to screen again.

don't forget he'd confiscate any video evidence of it. Not him, but he'd have Nike do it for him

Of course it does happened on my HS steam. I just find the media portrayal of MJ to be interesting. What if Cousins did that? the Jailblazers had Karl's Sonics had plenty of issues similar that went public and those players were pariahs MJ is lauded for it because he won and he played the media like a fiddle. Dude is a genius sociopath tbh ... might be the smartest player ever. Maybe Magic and Lebron had higher hoops IQ and others more business sense but when you add marketing, legacy, using team-mates etc. Jordan is pure genius.

again. America is soft these days as compared to yesteryear. You can't compare the same incident in both timeframes, it's not fair.

Plus with the interwebs, twezer and all the social(gay) media, you can't really compare tbh.

I mean when Tyler Perry farts in the NFL halftime, you get a million tweets about it. ing gay

Makes some sense. But let's say Moses Malone or Kareem did that would they have gotten the pass MJ did? What about Nique? I get your point but I think very few athletes get away with what Jordan did with persona and image relatively clean.

huh? Latrell choked a coach and he went on to have a long fruitful career

punches are thrown in practice ALL THE TIME. Kenyon Martin dropped Nene when he first joined the Nuggets. Nobody made a fuss about it. IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME

Elevate rotator cuff? What does he have to do with this? He is not as good as MJ we all know this.. I purposefully left him out of this so we wouldnt get bogged down in that but of course someone else brings him up ... Kobe has done plenty publicly to hurt his image and it's already scarred so I dont think he really applies to this convo. Reporting Mj punched team-mates does little to "elevate" Kobe because most already consider him a ty team-mate. If anything it helps Magic, Lebron, Duncan. Who do not have that rep.

huh? who said MJ has a clean persona? Gambler, used to pornstars around his wife, connections to the mob, bad teamate. Those are all facts. What clean persona you talking about?

still doesn't make MJ worse than the average NBA nig. and still doesn't make MJ not the GOAT

I already said he was the GOAT. I said relatively clean. MJ's gambling was swept under the rug by most of the media ...mostly only his haters even bring that up. and that except him gambling for hours the night before big games has nothing to do with basketball. My point was that MJ gets credit as a good leader and heck it worked he won ... but if Nique had done teh same exact thing it would of been part of the Nique is selfish not a winner lore. That was my point. My second point was that since some people already try to argue Lebron is mentally weak if he had done the same his haters would spin that as a sign of weakness when for MJ everyone consider it a sign of toughness. I am not saying either side is wrong just that it is interesting the way media spins influences the common sheep fans of the NBA or how it feeds in to the story you already want to see.

You know that. the common NBa fan does not ...and again most of that is non basketball related. Punching team-mates is basketball related.

Jordan was protected and he knew it, that's why he got away with throwing punches. His teammates never let the other guy retaliate.

A little guy, sure, but not someone bigger who could really damage MJ.

Like I said it is just interesting. If lets say you Swap Brady for Jordan and say Marino for Lebron in my original post. Brady would get excused even with social media as the fiery leader. Marino would get lambasted as poor leader adding ammunition to his detractors. Brady gets another example even if a poor one of his compe ive spirit.

TBH, to go back at DMC for a second I guess I see why some of yall hate rotator cuff. Because he has won some examples of poor behavior gets justified as he wants to win more than anyone etc. when if another guy did it they may gets more criticism. But agin it's not about him so please dont bog it down with that ... but I get it.

Jordan was, is and always will be a mentally unstable individual who continuously have to prove that he is the best at everything he does.

The way he treated his high school coach, to the way he treated Barkley and Oakley shows that he is a bully who only pick on people he thought he could pick on.

Kerr punched back btw, Jordan never pulled that on him again.

Cartwright threatened to take both his legs out , Jordan never insulted Cartwright publicly again.

Grant couldn't take it and left for Orlando.
Hopson never achieved his potential playing with Jordan and Pippen.
Kukoc ignored him and continued to be chastised while he was a Bull.

It was a toxic environment, and you know what? It was encouraged by the "Zen" master, who preferred a chaotic environment where he would come in as a good guy so that players would listen to him. It disingenuous, and it only can last so long before players are being marginalized and the team breaks apart.

Great points. Shaq used to say this and I didnt buy it at first thought it was an excuse for Kobe and Shaq's ego running amok (which also happened) Phil encouraged this stuff to galvanize the team but when it fails it implodes.Still a all time great coach but not sure I would enjoy that leadership style compared to Riles or Pop.

Again I dont even care about MJ's off court stuff. And of course both MJ and PJ's methods worked. So the ends justify the means. I wouldnt trade team harmony for 6 rings ...who would?

It works when you have a very talented player who is willing to act as a 2nd banana (Pippen, MVPau, Kobe at first), but when things go wrong, they go really wrong (Kobe and Shaq in 04).

Honestly, people pin the 12 Lakers failure on D'antoni (and Buss Jr.), but the situation could be a LOT worse with Jackson at the helm. Imagine how Dwight will react when he gets chewed out by Kobe and Jackson marginalize Dwight any further, Dwight can't even take a girl not responding to his text, he would go into depression under Jackson's style.
