Report: NBA to seed playoff teams regardless of division winners starting next season cbssports.com/nba/eye-on-bas…
Good, that made seeding more confusing than it needed to be.
First step in the right direction if true... next up, eliminate the conference bull ....
About the only thing dumb Stern Jr. said as a so-so reason was the potential long plane rides and schedules.
Like if an East Coast team vs West Coast matched up.
To me, that is nullified by these millionaire phucks all being able to afford either their own planes or chartered.
Well, it's progress.
Having that rule in effect this year changes a lot...a whole lot. Maybe the Spurs beat the Grizz in round 1, then play the Warriors. The winner of that series is worn down and plays the Rockets or Clippers. Maybe the Clippers finish the Rockets off quickly since they wouldn't have been locked in a physically draining series with the Blazers, presumably. The possibilities are endless.![]()
Well that, it's a year too late. If the Spurs had been 4th this year, as deserved, they'd have gone a lot further.
It reminds me of '06 when the NBA ed over the Spurs by forcing them to play the mavs in the second round despite the mavs having the second best record. This was all due to the bs seeding back then.
It's a decade too late imho. Remember the old days when 5-7 seeded teams lost games on intention to avoid the 4th seeded Mavs and to take on the 3rd seeded Super Sonics. Just because your team leads a ty division it doesn't mean you deserve a higher playoff spot than other teams who don't, or not a playoff spot at all if your division is too ty. The same happened in recent years as well, teams tanking games to take the guest team while avoiding the Clippers.
Bend over. I'll in' seed your in' division.
Looks like it's most likely going to happen. I bet spurs-clips is what drove the decision. Just a little too late!![]()
Also not sure if this means that division winners aren't even guaranteed a playoff spot.

Now seed 1-16 regardless of conference.
What about HCA? Who gets HCA if a division winner and non division winner have the same record? Does head to head matchups matter or is it still a division winner having the HCA when tied with a non division winner?
