FULL story at link.WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama secured a landmark foreign policy victory Wednesday as Senate Democrats amassed enough votes to ensure the Iran nuclear deal survives in Congress despite ferocious opposition from Republicans and the government of Israel.
Democratic Sen. Barbara Mikulski of Maryland became the crucial 34th vote in favor of the agreement.
"No deal is perfect, especially one negotiated with the Iranian regime," Mikulski said in a statement. She called the accord "the best option available to block Iran from having a nuclear bomb. For these reasons, I will vote in favor of this deal."
The backing from Mikulski, who is retiring next year, gives supporters the margin they need to uphold an Obama veto of a congressional resolution of disapproval if Republicans pass such a measure later this month.

I've come to the conclusion that you're not really a 9/11 truther.
Again, however you feel about him and there is still some time for another economic meltdown -- can anyone think of a more successful second term president?
...bubble...bubble....boiling trouble.....
Obama’s Labor Day Executive Order: More Paid Sick LeaveFor Government Contractors
President Barack Obama signed his latest executive order on Labor Day, which extends the number of paid sick leave days mandated for federal contractors.
“Right now you have parents who have to choose between losing income or staying home with a sick child,” Obama said Monday in a speech at the annual Greater Boston Labor Council breakfast, an event sponsored by the AFL-CIO.
The executive order means that federal contractors will now earn one hour of leave for every 30 hours worked, with a cap at seven days of paid time off per year, the administration said. In total, the new regulations will extend paid sick leave to 300,000 federal contractors who currently do not have such benefits.
Obama also called on Congress to pass the Healthy Families Act, which would require private-sector employers with more than 15 employees to extend paid sick leave benefits.
“It builds on the growing momentum of people who are answering the call,” Obama said during his speech.

When all is said and done i think everyone, including republicans, (not the tea-party racists) will be forced to admit that Barry O was one of the best presidents of our generation.
i find it funny that no matter who is in office, and no matter how things are actually going, one party will claim "things are going great! our president is amazing" while the other party will say "omg our country is going down the drain, we need to get our guy in office"
I was thinking there's so little political talk about economic issues lately... cheap gas, unemployment figures lower than Reagan... and most job additions from the private sector.
Apparently, "Barrycare: the job killer" failed to pan out, even though it's been in full swing for a while now. His distant cousin, "Bush taxcut expiration will disincentive 'job creators'" also failed to make an appearance.
It's not all roses, employment needs more full time jobs and better wages, and Barrycare is still a turd compared to what it should've really been: single payor...
But for all the doom and gloom from supply-siders, it's been relatively calm waters in the economic front lately (Wall Street adjustment notwithstanding).
Foreign policy is a disaster.
Domestic policy is a success if your goal was to get the gays married and pass a ty Heath care plan. Racial relations aren't great. Middle class is screwed. Illegal immigration is still a problem. Millenials still live with mom and pop.
But yes, best president evah.
being Putin's punching bag
Nobel peace prize
most murderous drone stint in history
this happening in your presidency
Foreign policy definitely poor, generally speaking.
Racial relations and immigration basically status quo. You have some of those minorities being more outspoken, but nothing has really changed.
in before boutons blames bubba, GOP Congress, et all...
And Europe looks like a World War Z trailer.
You don't think racial relations are worse?
In what sense? You have a bunch of people with a bigger loudspeaker (blacks, SJWs), but what has really changed? The disdain of black people for cops and vice-versa is fairly old.
Other than the news cycle focusing on it, I can't think of any actual new laws or new judicial precedent set in that area during this (or last) administration.
Oh and he killed off the gatekeeper opening the gates of Europe to the barbarian hordes.![]()
Giving his muslim bros a better future, tbh
Europe will be an Islamic continent before long.
In what ways?
And is it somehow worse than that under Bush?
And your domestic whining is Breitbart level.
In what ways is the foreign policy a success? Be specific.
This is probably the worst time for Obama s to bring out the pom poms.
lol Darrin with the nonanswer fest. You made the claim of failure. back it up.
It's not cheerleading. Presidents usually have really bad second terms. I will ask you another direct question you will not answer and pout about: knowing that there is still time to get worse, which president do you, DarrinS, believe had a better second term than Obama is having now?
tbh, I thought he was largely going to be another lame duck, especially after losing Congress, but, agree or disagree with his policies, he's still central to a lot of the sutff happening in DC.
