Tough day for Charles Barkley. Malone was his mentor and somewhat of a big brother/father figure to him.
As an old schooler, Moses was the hard hat, lunch pail guy of the NBA, relentless and hard working, qualities not always attributed to superstars. Enjoyed the many battles between the Spurs and the Malone led Rockets. RIP.
This should be the official thread for this topic
I agree spurT. Official Moses Malone RIP thread.
My favorite Moses story: 1981 C's were doing their victory parade. Bird was at the podium; He looks to a fan holding up a sign that says, 'Eat , Moses!' So, Bird recites it to the crowd's glee.
Yea, he taught him how to hold people in choke holds from behind while allowing a friend to punch the guy in the face; a real class act.
Forward to about 1:15 mark.
I had the chance to be an honorary ballboy one game when Washington came to town back when Malone played for them, and I got to sit right under the basket. Seeing the way Moses fought for position and for rebounds from five feet away was unreal. He was the baddest mother er on Earth, I don't think I have ever seen anyone physical like that. RIP to a true legend.
Dawkins and Malone dying within a couple weeks of each other is a bit surreal; two big dominant Sixers centers from the 80's.
Could you hear what they were saying? I feel like that time period would've been hilarious to hear on court banter. Also, you are hands down my favorite poster. Great stories!
I bet Larry started it with Racist remarks or something. Bird just looks like a bag.
There wasn't a lot of trash talk between the Bullets and Spurs. I just mostly heard grunts fighting for position, complaining to the refs after a foul call, guys talking to their teammates after whistles, stuff like that. I don't think Moses was much of a trash talker and neither were Bernard King nor Terry Catledge. I don't remember anyone on the Spurs talking much trash either.
If you must know, LB was owning Dr. J, who was guarding him; and after made baskets he was announcing their scoring tallies. After Bird made his final shot half way through the third to make the ledger 42-6, Dr. J had to start a fight like a cos he was getting owned. This led to Bird getting ejected and not continuing his career night of hitting 70 or so, which he was on pace to reach.
And Bird was far from a racist; or rather he doesn't talk about race like a child. When Isiah and Rodman said their racist sh** about him, he didn't come out and condemn them, he just said whatever, say what they want to say; I know I kick ass. Shrugged it off like the champ he is.
Bird shrugged it off b/c he also used to partake in that type of trash-talk on the court (as I'm pretty sure that you were already aware of it as the Bird fan club president). There is really no guilt party, it was a mutual thing.
Moses was a beast around the basket. I hated him but liked his game.
Never forget his full-court buzzer-beater from his season with the Spurs...
I don't know. But I wouldn't have put it past Bird to use a racial slur; he was not a politically correct yutz on the court.
One of the coolest dudes, with one of the coolest names, ever to lace 'em up. RIP!
I blame him for teaching Hakeem how to sodomize Robinson tbh

Admiral got sodomized by Karl Malone multiple times in the postseason, Hakeem only got him once when he was putting up video game numbers.
