Apparently, there's about 20 coaches invited by Pop and Ettore (including Oscar and Thibs) watching the practices and taking notes...
Oscar "Huevo" Sanchez is an Argentinean basketball coach that apparently has been invited to the Spurs camp, alongside other coaches.
He has a FB page here:

Today he posted this picture:
What I thought was interesting is what he posted afterwards, here's the translation:
What a monster Pop! Ettore tells me about his coaching quality, Manu how he is as a coach and his human side.
It's a pleasure to be part of these coaches that were authorized to watch him work.
Today he played 21 video clips from games 4 and 5 of the Clippers series, with the mistakes and why the series was lost.
Example: Defensive transition was bad and on-the-ball defense and body stances were poor.
From there, the first day of camp kicked off with workouts on defensive transition and body stances when defending one on one, and moving with the ball.
Ettore had an idea that the team already started to practice. A "wall" type of defense, without giving up an orientation or line to the rim. No holes towards the rim...
We'll see how that works since Pop has over 12 years orienting towards a specific line.
Everything is amazing here. Because of ethics and respect I can't send images about team tactic.
I'll try to compile a list of exercises and everything I can for our future campuses.
Watching Ettore as an assistant coach and happy and just Pop operate it's a pleasure. Thanks.
Time to rest.

The bit about Messina's "wall" defense is certainly interesting. "No lines to the rim" doesn't exactly tell us much.
Yeah, probably he won't go into specifics out of respect, but it's indeed interesting. Pop has been funneling to baseline and towards Tim whenever possible, so this will be an interesting twist.
Good post
Without Tiago in the paint we need some changes on defense but not sure if this "wall" was what I expected.

Why Messina didn't have an idea of how to solve the Clips double high screen? Pop and Messina couldn't adjust to the double high screen for Paul in seven games, that was one of many reasons why we lost.

^^ Realistically, with Splitter unable to move, the personnel to defend a Clippers team with Paul/Griffin attacking from the perimeter simply wasn't existent for the Spurs, tbh..I criticized Pop for the same thing, too, but I think a lot of people(especially non-Spurs fans and media) really underestimated Splitter's impact on the Spurs' defense and how much he helped mask Duncan's lack of mobility..
Alridge won't match Splitter's defensive ability, either, but at least he's mobile, and it sounds like the coaching staff has made fresh defensive adjustments as their main priority..Green playing 30 MPG(which I expect to happen after Pop played him around 30 vs. the Clippers, despite his shooting struggles, which wouldn't have been the case in prior years) will help negate Splitter's absence, as well..
It would be nice if Spurs could nab Thibs to be an assistant
So they are essentially going to be playing a 2-3 zone defense for 48 minutes & are going to force team to beat them from outsides. Considering the length of LMA/Tim/Kawhi (plus Boban) & LMA being more mobile than most bigs the paint would be clogged.....might work against the Clips (Josh Smith/Lance/Austin aka the 3 blind mice) but this would be a disaster against the Warriors since they will be bombing away from outside.

We watched how Warriors' zone destroyed the Cavs in last Finals, granted, Cavs' absences had something to do with it...but agree with you, that won't work against hot-shooting teams.
I think the Spurs'll play more invidual defense, with Kawhi and Danny against GSW to contain their perimeter fire, pressuring the ball, disrupting the flow...if they go small they won't hurt us with LMA, Kawhi, West and Diaw.
Very telling post. Many thanks for this and the translation.
I suspect it's just one more option defensively, not something they're going to use every time against every team. The Spurs played zone for stretches last season too, depending on the opponent, or just trying to give a different look.
Somebody mentioned how surprised he was that there were so many coaches. Obviously they are invited by Pop, not to enhance his prestige, but to pay forward to others his love of basketball and successful systems to help them. Kinda like Duncan helps players from other teams in the offseason. We have a culture here in SA that is generous with its knowledge.
Very interesting. Thanks for posting.YES! I love that they are doing stuff like that, not that I would love them even less if they hadn't, but you know...We have a culture here in SA that is generous with its knowledge.
Agree.. Can't find better professionals than these two..
Thanks for the post and translation. Has this insider feeling.
Pop been listening to too many debates. "We gotta build a wall!"
Thanks for sharing Nono!!! (I had a lengthy post made and lost pressing wrong button)Arrg! You are right Nono it's probably just different looks to throw someone off balance a bit. We saw the most zone when Kawhi was out during the season and the team understaffed faced the toughest part of the schedule with a lot of backs to backs. Sometimes you have to adjust not even to the opponent but the guys that you have available to play as well. I could see Boban being successful in this kind of wall.

I bet alot of different teams are going to reap some dividends from some knowledge and experience gained by these coaches in attendance. Pay it forward, pop. That's a cool mofo if I ever saw one.
Top five on my bucket list of celebs i would like to meet. I would like to just spend an afternoon picking his brain and just talking politics and life in general. Maybe a little basketball too. You would walk away a better man for it. He could have some wine and I could burn a few down. That would be cool.
