It says a lot about D-Rob's talent for blocked shots that it took TD an additional five years to pass him up. Congrats to TD, but never forget 5-0.
Congrats to tim. We are lucky af to have him.
A big part of the reason is because of the minutes restriction he's been on for the past several years, and then there was also that 2nd lockout to factor in.
Robinson had superior physical tools and played in an era where there was more blocked shots, at least among top shot blockers.
Duncan has the best timing I've ever seen and if he were the typical shot blocker that was seeking them, he could have had a lot more.

Not really. D-Rob also missed an entire season due to injury and had a lockout season. D-Rob's minutes actually started to reduce in his playing career before Tim's were reduced in his career. In the first 12 years of their respective careers, their minutes were pretty identical. D-Rob just blocked a whole lot more shots.
Seems like a lot of excuses for D-Rob being one of the greatest shot blockers in history. It took one guy 14 seasons to tally 2900 blocks and the other it took 19—a difference of approximately 400 games.

In another thread someone actually compared their blocks/minute. David's was like 25% higher than Tim's.
In his prime, David Robinson was an absolutely elite defender... as good or better than any big in the league today.
Yep. I'd say better than any current big on D. There's just a not anybody right now with the combination of blocks, rebounds, steals, strength and freakish speed like Robinson. Watching him intercept passes or make steals, and outrun every single other person on the court (including the point guards) during a fastbreak was sight to behold.
DRob's a GOAT defender candidate - easily better than any defender today. He's possibly the most underrated player in NBA history as far as overall impact.
Duncan probably passes Eaton this year (4th with 3,064). Duncan is on pace to finish the season with 3,097. He would have a shot at passing Kareem (3rd with 3,189) if he played one more season. Would have to play two more seasons to pass Mutumbo (3,289). No shot at Hakeem (1st with 3,830).
Hakeem is the GOAT defender. DRob was as good a shot blocker but Hakeem was a better man-on-man defender & could move his feet better laterally.
