SEATTLE, United States (AFP) - Vladimir Radmanovic couldn't keep Serbia and Montenegro in contention in the European Basketball championships, but he will return to the National Basketball Association's Seattle SuperSonics.

Radmanovic signed a one-year qualifying offer at undisclosed terms with the SuperSonics on Wednesday, one day after France eliminated Serbia and Montenegro from the European tournament. The defeat means Serbia can only get into the 2006 World Championships on one of the International Basketball Federation's four special invitations, of which two are expected to go to Europe.

Radmanovic, who was unable to reach an agreement on a long-term deal with the SuperSonics, will be an unrestricted free agent after the 2005-06 season.

I told people all summer this is what would happen. He wants to be unrestricted next summer and free to go where he wants.
