Mock talks to reporters at Thursday's press conference.

FormerUniversity of Texas starting quarterback Chance Mock has agreed to sign with the Austin Wranglers on the official signing day, October 1.

Mock, who played in 28 career games while at the University of Texas at Austin, combines arm strength and accuracy with solid foot speed and toughness.

The Austin Wranglers, which start their third season in January, are actively recruiting free agent and rookie playmakers that will help make the Wranglers a legitimate contender for an ArenaBowl championship and a team that Central Texas is proud of.

“Chance Mock brings many assets to the Austin Wranglers, including solid quarterback skills, great character and at ude, and an eagerness to play football again in front of his UT fan base,” says Wranglers Head Coach Skip Foster. “We are fortunate to have our starting quarterback, John Fitzgerald, returning to the team and we are excited to have Chance join our team at the QB position.”

The Wranglers can sign 17 new players during the free agency period.

“I am excited to join the Austin Wranglers, which are adding new talent and building a 2006 team that will be highly compe ive and poised to win a championship,” says Mock. “It’s exciting to play professional football in a league that is growing and has so much opportunity. And I can’t think of a better place to play football than in the same town where I played in college, in front of the fans who have supported me.”

Mock credits his decision to join the Wranglers to the vision and goals of the Wranglers coaches and front office and to encouragement he received from former Longhorn players Aaron Humphrey and Greg Brown. Both have become solid contributors with the Wranglers.

“Arena Football is exciting and fast-paced, requiring both speed and technical abilities,” says Humphrey. “Chance Mock has both of these attributes and will be a great addition to the Austin Wranglers team.”

Former NFL player and Wranglers General Manager Glyn Milburn noted that the Wranglers have contacted more than 50 AFL and NFL free agents and the response has been very encouraging.

“The players we are talking with are impressed with the City of Austin, the people and their love of football, and the direction that the Austin Wranglers are taking,” Milburn says. “Chance Mock represents the kind of talent and character that we want.”

Chance played in 28 career games with the Longhorns, completing 115-of-213 passes, 17 touchdowns (No. 9 on the UT all-time list) and two interceptions. He began his collegiate career throwing 160 consecutive passes without an interception, the longest streak for a UT quarterback to start a career.

Before playing as a Longhorn, Mock attended The Woodlands High School in Woodlands, Texas and was selected as a 1999 Parade All-American.

I thought Chance would make a good back-up in the NFL but I guess not.
Did he ever go to a camp?

While we're speaking of Chance & a minor league football team, whatever happened to Eric "I Quit Again" Crouch? Did he ever go to an NFL training Camp & stay longer than a week?

Great question. Since Crouch was basically an additional RB in the Nebraska O in prior seasons, he was never going to be an NFL QB nor will he. HE is currently playing in the NFLEurope as a DB. He stayed ay both camps longer than a week, by the way.

Gotta give anyone credit who does not have the passion for the game. Give it up if you do not love it enough to live it.

Now, back to the topic, which I believe had nothing to do with NU...

NO doubt, I agree that Crouch NEVER was QB.

I think the topic was a college back-up QB who went on to sign with what is basically a minor minor minor league NFL team.

Crouch = A Wannabe QB in a junior minor semi league

    That clear?
