Galveston is already evacuating. A&M-G starting making students leave at noon today. That NOAA map puts the eye just east of Houston, giving the dirty side to Houston.
The Eye of Katrina didnt hit all those towns in Alabama and Mississippi that were destroyed, they were hit dead on by the dirty side.

Seriously, where in town do you live? Only the low-lying areas along the coast, along Galveston Bay, and near the Ship Channel are supposed to evacuate. Anybody else just clogs up the highways more than necessary.

To answer your question, which side of the sprawl do you live on? There is a big difference here from south to north. Also, how prone is your area to flooding?
If south or east side or flood-plone, take off Thursday night with your computer backups and make a 3-day weekend out of it.
Only those living in the purple and green areas need to evacuate. If you're in the orange or pink, evacuation for this storm is just acting on the safe side.

I live downtown. About 5 blocks from Minute Maid Park.
Only leave if it gets up to Catagory 4.
Did your area flood during Allison?
If so, find higher ground to ride out the storm.
If not, make preparations to loot retail stores and homes in the Bay Area as soon as the storm surge recedes.
I lived in Asia during Alison.
My building was built in 1913. I dont know if that is good or bad.
