mer"man"....... MER"MAN"!
While i appreciate Ben Stillers wanting to get it right with the sequel to one of the finest movies ever made, on that note what is up with giving directing duties to newbie Justin Theroux?
Ben Stiller Says 'Zoolander 2' Is "On Hold"
by Megh Wright | December 19th, 2013
It looks like the wait for the long-rumored Zoolander sequel has just gotten longer. In an interview with ShortList Magazine, Ben Stiller had the following to say about the next time he'll play Derek on the big screen:
Q. What’s the latest on Zoolander 2? Will it ever happen?
A. Right now, it’s on hold. There’s a script we like, but I don’t want to force it, because people who love that movie really love it, so I want to make sure we do the sequel the right way. Mike Myers did it well with the Austin Powers movies – they were all funny, and very ‘of their time’. And Zoolander is ‘of its time’, too, so it’s about how we could bring it up to date, to the present day.
Q. Presumably, Derek will be rolling out ‘Blue Steel’ again in the sequel…
A. Not ‘Blue Steel’ again, no. He’s got a new look. I think part of the sequel will be about how the fashion world moves so quickly. So, the movie will begin at a time when the whole world has moved on from Derek and Hansel because they’re so ancient history. It’s about them having to reinvent themselves and try to become relevant again.
How very meta. Zoolander has a unique history as one of the first big comedies to be released after 9/11; it understandably didn't perform well at the theaters but went on to gain a huge cult following. In addition to the movie sequel, there have been on-and-off updates about the animated Zoolander series ( led Billy Glimmer: Entertainer of the Century) as well, but a release date for the series has not yet been set. While a Zoolander sequel isn't exactly necessary, it's a good sign that Stiller prefers to take his time with it rather than rush it to the screen. If there's one thing he learned from the release of the first movie, it's that timing is everything.
mer"man"....... MER"MAN"!
I don't find Ben Stiller movies funny. I must be the only one....Something about Mary was good but the rest......cable view.....
huge Zoolander fan. Theroux was in the original as the breakdancer, but I wouldn't want him directing it. He had a hand in writing Tropic Thunder but he also wrote Iron Man 2 which wasn't that good. Stiller is actually a very talented director, but I remember hearing rumors that he was a massive jerk on the first film, just too much stress. He should direct this but maybe he'd rather produce and "direct" from afar like George Lucas.
Some forward movement! New director, probably Stiller. Altho buzzkill by Stiller on the bottom.
‘Zoolander 2’ Is So Hot Right Now: Will Ferrell Confirms Mugatu Will Be In Sequel
Try not to have a whack attack, but Mugatu might be making a comeback. Will Ferrell, who played the comedic villain from the 2001 film, “Zoolander,” confirmed rumors Tuesday that a sequel is in the works.
Speaking with JoBlo.com, Ferrell said, “We are actually supposed to do a read-through of a sequel script soon, and Mugatu is a part of it.”
The sequel to the popular comedy has been rumored for years. In 2010, Ben Stiller tweeted about a potential Derek Zoolander comeback. Three years later, he told ShortList Magazine the project was “on hold.”
But now, it appears that Derek Zoolander will follow in Ron Burgundy’s footsteps. Ferrell’s latest comments come weeks after Justin Theroux, who was pegged as the film’s writer and director in 2010, told Vulture about plans for bringing Zoolander back to the big screen.
“We’ve got a script for the sequel, and we’ve just been in talks again,” said Theroux, whose HBO series “The Leftovers” just finished its first season. “We’re trying to sharpen it and hone it and, actually, I don’t want to jinx anything, but it looks like it actually might be starting to get up and running.”
Given that his TV career has taken off, Theroux said he likely wouldn't be directing "Zoolander 2," but according to IMDB he's still attached as a screenwriter. “I don’t think I’m going to do it anymore,” he said. If “The Leftovers” gets picked up for a second season he may not have the time to do the project, he said. “So it’ll probably get handed to Ben [Stiller], which would be awesome.”
Stiller, who directed “Zoolander,” hinted at the possible plotline for the sequel. In a 2011 interview, he said the sequel would take place 10 years after the first. Derek Zoolander and Hansel (played by Owen Wilson) will be struggling models since "ten years is a thousand years. They're both totally out of it and have to start from scratch," Stiller told Empire Magazine. "And then there are things set up at the end of the first movie that we're able to build on, like Derek and Matilda have a son, and Mugatu went to jail. There's a lot there, I'm excited about the idea of doing it. It feels like it's getting close to going."
Stiller was less optimistic when he recently addressed “Zoolander 2” when giving a Master Class at the Taormina Film Festival in Italy in June. "The film's been discussed and in some way in the works for 10 years, but there are no plans to start production any time soon," he said, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Stiller hasn't yet commented publicly on the latest hints that “Zoolander 2” is on its way.![]()

Hangover 3, Anchorman 2, and Dumb and Dumber To ing BLEW. I love all their firsts and love Zoolander. I'm a scared little boy on this one
Filming to begin in Spring in Rome -allegedly.

Who will or won't direct the movie? I dunno, IMDB still has Theroux but i'll bet that has been part of the holdup.
Justin Theroux, who had a cameo in the first film, co-wrote the script of the second installment together with Ben Stiller. He was supposed to the direct the new movie, but decided to pass it to Stiller.
Sean Payton of the Saints to have a role.

This pretentious kuunt?? to have a part:
Another newbie is rumored to join the "Zoolander 2" cast and that is Cara Delevingne. "Ben and producers want a big-name model for the film and they need to be jokers and full of natural comedy," a source told The Sun. "They are still working out what the exact role will be but it's likely to include a lot of goofing around."
It's a walk off!
Feb 12, 2016.
IMDB still listing Justin Theroux as director.

This movie is going down the Anchorman 2 road very quickly. Don't try so ing hard, it doesn't need these pointless ing cameos
Since Kanye is so involved with fashion, him being in it makes sense. Bieber, not so much. But then again, Bowie was in the last one.
I hope not. the first is one of my favorite films, far more than Anchorman. i saw Zoolander in the theaters, it got a tepid reaction since it was right after 9/11, but i appreciated its stupidity even then.
really good teaser. even if it doesn't live up to the first one, i can't wait for this .
The voice sounds like someone doing a Zoolander impersonation. I'm worried, especially with Hangover 3, Anchorman 2, and Dumb and Dumber 2 being literally the worst movies I've ever seen
Dumb and Dumber 2 wasn't as good as the first but they managed to not make it into a complete heap like Dumb and Dumberer. I laughed pretty hard at parts.
the first zoolander was stupid too. i dont anticipate a sequal coming out a decade and a half later being any good
SpunkTrader ^^ did anyone inform you Zoolander was/is a spoof on the modeling industry?
wait it was a spoof? holy that changes everything
the only thing it was a spoof of was comedy movies
No problem, that is one of the tenants of SpursTalk, to help our fellow man.
Do you get enough fiber in you diet? Physical and emotional?
