I saw this one network special many years ago where in Great Britain I believe they were having the corpse stay in the house for a couple days and be treated like one of the family. They'd embalm the person, then bring them back out to the house. They'd sit in the living room while everyone either conversed, or, watched Fantasy Island, Love Boat, etc, then at bed time they'd carry them in there and lay 'em in the bed and the mate would hold them and comfort them. No necrophilia, nothing like that. It was a serious program.
