Its definitely dribbling to beat people in the set offense. His handles are far from elite. Next would be seeing the floor in the set offense. KL in transition is a monster. Third would be the D on quicker guys. He can handle Lebron, but has tougher time with guys like Klay because they can use off screens and PnRs effectively. He's not great at handling screens. His off ball D is tremendous and often leads to scores. The aforementioned, and handling the big tough scorers like P. George, Lebron, Mellow etc get him DPOY

Klay barely scored against Kawhi in the regular season.

There is a myth that Kawhi can't defense fast guards, after last playoffs when he hold Westbrook just to 37 FG%, 26 3P%, 6 FTA, 4.5 TO, he proved it was false.

The guys that use screens, I disagree. He can get better at this.
Westbrook still got into the paint on him. We could not cover him. 37% is not unusual for a good Westbrook game.

Until RC/Pop will be ready to trade Parker, no one PG will want to play here.

Beating the screens is a team-job not just one player's, sadly, we saw it against the Clips high-double screens in 2015 playoffs.

And for the record, Westbrook scored more and got to the free line more against the Warriors than us.

The OP asked what he can improve on. I told you why he got DPOY. Off ball, ability to cover the best big scorers.
And so what with the Warriors, they don't have KL.

    Dont keep up with that.

Just replying on what I see.

    Ball handling set offense.
Seeing the entire floor with the ball set offense

The above allow one to be a playmaker in the set offense.

Ref work. And that it starts in the first quarter and never stops, it is its own game.

sacrificing his body. getting to the free throw line at all costs on offense. Punishing his defenders on offense so harshly that it helps him on defense

dribbling the ball. Yes he's better now but let's face it he still sucks.

Kawhi has improved a lot as ball handler in pick and roll situations, his numbers were ELITE in the regular season.

    1.13 PPP 51.5 FG%, 96.7 percentile.

Just to put in perspective, our two main guys as pick and roll ball handlers weren't near his level last season

    Parker
    0.89 PPP 47.2 FG% 57.4 percentile

    Manu
    0.67 PPP 36.4 FG% 19.7 percentile

Pop should give him the opportunity to run p&r with Gasol and LMA more often, as the next step in his game.

But I can't see Pop doing it with Parker/Manu's still on the team, it's likely that Kawhi should wait another season...

This may sound like a coach wanting a star player to grow for the team, but I think he needs to become MORE vocal as a leader. With Tim and the others getting older, one of the young guys needs to step forward. Kawhi should embrace that role.

One thing that worries me is his shot, I hope his last regular season 3P% wasn't a fluke.

Since we have only Danny as true shooter in the SL, a streaky-icy/hot shooter, the Spurs really need other one with Pau/LMA drawing attention in the paint and creating good looks for the perimeter guys...

Better decisions with the ball. Sometimes he passes up some great shots. I think he's still not completely comfortable being the man.

He is a defensive catalyst. Gasol's offense should take some pressure off of him to score. Kawhi could be the third best scorer in the team and focus more on corraling the likes of Durant. Watch Pops orchestrate the motion offense to free-up Bertrans and even hopefully Forbes because he could really be deadly off screens. That perfect balance of offense and defense will set the Spurs apart from the rest. I'm actually excited how this team is unfolding.

Greens not sinking his 3's and Timmy's declining offense put too much pressure on Kawhi to score imo. With the best front court Gasol/LMA in the league, I think Kawhi gets to focus on what he does best - Defense. Just my two cents.
