They made that trade because Ratliff got hurt.
Theo Ratliff was still an excellent defensive C and they had Kukoc.
So basically they traded a defensive C for another defensive C and lost offensive firepower
Considering the Sixers didn't have many offensive weapons to begin with, it was really stupid.
Kukoc was a versatile offensive player, left handed and had championship experience (and also made big shots in his career)
And IIRC, the Sixers had a better winning % before the trade
Larry Br
wn making this trade because of the ing ASG

They made that trade because Ratliff got hurt.
I forgot that
Me
But was it a long term injury?
Kukoc was in heavy decline & Ratliff was injured, IIRC. Mutombo was the Dwight Howard of the league with much better character.
Sixers (no one) were beating the mighty Lakers that year. Kobe was just too damn good and they were ultra motivated.
Broken hand or arm I think? That was my first year really following the NBA
He got hurt a few games before they made the trade and only played 3 games the rest of the season.
Understandable trade then
Mutombo dominated the Bucks who were otherwise much more talented than the Sixers. Deke actually led the Sixers in win-share during the postseason.![]()
Sixerrefs in the ECF tbh
Iverson was injured so the Bucks can't complain about the refs. Mutombo sonned 'em in a pivotal Gm 5 when Iverson was wrapped up like a mummy.![]()
