I did see it, looked pretty bad on the replay. If he is out
Steelers are done.
Did anyone see that last night? His left knee got hyperextended complements of a chargers defender.
Hopefully from the Steeler's POV, Roethlisberger just stretched the ligaments out and will be back in 4-6 wks with therapy and a kneebrace. He'll have to do a Bledsoe impersonation, but it wasn't like he was Michael Vick to begin with.
Worse case, he tore his ACL, but I don't know that he did just looking at the pictures. The hand gestures that the trainer was making to him also seemed to illustrate just a hyperextension (no shearing jestures or motions). Also, his knee stayed pretty straight, so his MCL's should be OK, maybe just a little stretched out.
He's gonna feel this one in 10 years when the weather changes.![]()

SAN DIEGO -- Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was knocked out of Monday night's game at San Diego after he was hit in the left knee by a defensive lineman's helmet.
With the Chargers leading 22-21, Roethlisberger had completed a 9-yard pass to Antwaan Randle El when he was hit by Chargers rookie Luis Castillo with 1:05 left. He was replaced by Charlie Batch, who has played only a handful of downs the last three years.
"It's been a while," Batch told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "I'm excited for the opportunity."
Steelers coach Bill Cowher said Roethlisberger suffered a significant hyperextension of the left knee. Roethlisberger flew with the team to Pittsburgh Monday night although he had to leave the locker room on crutches.
Roethlisberger will undergo an MRI on Tuesday. His knee wasn't wrapped as he dressed to leave with the team on the bus to the airport.
The Steelers aren't ruling him out for Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but they will prepare Batch during the short week of practice.
The Steelers are treating the injury as though it is not major because they don't know for sure. The team thinks there could be a bone bruise. On the field, though, it looked serious. (It was about 5 degrees or more back from where it should have been IMO).
Coach Bill Cowher will give an update at the team's Tuesday press conference.
The Associated Press and ESPN.com NFL senior writer John Clayton contributed to this report.
Well if Big Ben is out that means Tommy Maddox is back to being the QB.
Maddox is out as well. Charlie Batch is up.
Steelers are done. That sucks cause Cower is a good coach and this is the first Steelers team since the "the steel curtain" that I have liked.
Actually Maddox might be available to play this weekend and Rothlesberger hasn't been ruled out yet.
Nope. Maddox is praticing and will go if Big Ben can't. But I read earlier today that there is a chance Big Ben could play this weekend. If I were the Steelers, I wouldn't play him this week, give his knee a week off. Maddox is capable of doing well as he was the QB for the Steelers until Big Ben came along.
Oct 13 Steelers quarterback Tommy Maddox practiced on Wednesday and is questionable for this week's game against the Jaguars because of a calf injury he suffered in Friday's practice, reports the Associated Press. Charlie Batch took most of the snaps with the first team and will be the team's starter on Sunday if Ben Roethlisberger, who is doubtful with a hyperextended left knee, and Maddox can't play.
Views: While the team hasn't ruled Roethlisberger out yet, the fact they have him listed as doubtful is a good indication he'll be watching the game from the sidelines. A healthy Maddox would get the start ahead of Batch, but Charlie will continue to work with the first team until Tommy's calf improves.
I doubt Roethlisberger plays, if Maddox can't go then Batch will be the starter.
He was lucky in that it hyperextended only and stayed in the same plane of motion that it would normally.
I bet his tendons are all stretched out and he has to do extensive therapy to tighten them up some.
I am glad that he will rebound fairly quickly, no one wants to see someone taken down like that.
