You mean end of an error? The error being that Balmer didn't fire the out of Rivers and his son Autism Rivers.
End of the CP3 era. End of the Clippers as they're currently cons uted. End of Doc Rivers as a GM or coach, if not both. End of the Clippers at Staples Center.
They had a chance to take advantage of the Lakers being down. Now, they ought to move, even if it's just to the other side. LA will never be a Clippers town.
You mean end of an error? The error being that Balmer didn't fire the out of Rivers and his son Autism Rivers.
They would be foolish if they run it back again as it is..Fire Doc, let Reddik walk, maybe sign & trade Blake or simply let him go elsewhere, dude is looking very much like the Amare Stoudamire of his generation..A shakeup of sort has to happen..
What do you mean? You didn't do anything to them. They fold every post season before the WCF. It's a Chris Paul thing. So yeah, they've been exactly the same. The difference this year, outside of Blake being out, was that Pop would have started intentionally fouling Jordan, even up 11 with 5 minutes to go in the 4th, and probably lost because of it.
Blake absolutely choked that series too. So no its not just a Paul thing.
While it's true that the horrible luck of Josh Smith becoming Ray Allen killed their best chance, it's not like they were a sure thing
I'm not a huge fan of their core, but I think any good GM/coach combination could have at least reached the Finals with a Paul/Griffin/Jordan core, when healthy..surrounding them with washed-up players from the 2008-2010 Celtics era wasn't the way to go, who could have seen that coming?
It's 2017 and they still haven't solved the SF position..Wesley Johnson, Paul Pierce, Mbah A Moute, running Crawford at the 3, fat Jared Dudley, etc..still no depth, too, it's the same problems they have had since Tom Rivers became boss..
They'll probably max Paul and avoid rebuilding now..
The Clippers just never got the 3 and D wing guy they needed. Getting a Porter, Danny Green type player would have made a lot of difference for them.
Their stars not being so injury prone would have helped too, tbh.
They also haven't developed anybody, either..they only have 1 player who "surprised" by becoming a contributor, and that was Austin Rivers, who only received a chance due to his father's position..
Look at teams like the Warriors and Spurs with their late-round picks and reclamation projects.
And the one thing those 3 and D have in common is that they're usually development Projoects. Either they were picks or scrubs that the developlemnt team developed.
The Clippers gave up picks to get 35 year olds...
Rivers should be axed.
But realisticly, i think they will bring everyone again. At least try to. It's still a 50 win team. The NBA is still a business.
Reshuffle the 5th best to the 8th best players. Need to trade crawfords ass for a second round pick. Need to start making minor rebuilding moves.
As someone said it the other thread, if they aren't going to break up the CP/DJ/Blake core, they have to make a play for Carlisle and see if he would be ready to jump in..He is not the type that enjoys coaching in youngsters or rosters in rebuild mode like what's Dallas about to embark in..
I just don't see any other compelling names currently out of job to take over from Doc..Mark Jackson?McHale?
Hollins?
..
HH is correct. Doc, like a lot of other coaches, don't know about talent outside of the rosters they've coached so they bring in these washed up guys they overrate and throw in some neoptism and your high priced core is royally ed. But you doubled down and made him the president of basketball operations as well, since SA did that with Pop and look at how well that turned out. Must mean that you'll have 20 consecutive 50 win seasons if you make your ty HC a manager as well.
If Doc was white he'd have been fired years ago (or never gotten the job).
Ginobili's 1st HC job
It's unlikely they break the core. It will only break if Paul/Griffin/Red decide they wont play anymore with LA. It's up to the players to make that decision.
If they all decide to comeback, they need to star making minor rebuilding moves. Get rid of Crawford and Felton. Trade Crawford for a second round pick in 2019.
Exactly. Most fans don't consider this because they only think about it from their perspective and whether they think said team can win a championship . . . but this is the NBA, where 3-4 teams usually have a legit chance and in this era, they've always been just outside that.
Also, it sounds nice to say "tear it down", but it's nearly impossible to build a team as good as theirs. You need a lot of luck just to get to that level, never mind the Spurs or Warriors. The far more likely outcome is being the next Magic or Suns.
Griffin probably is breaking down and might have already started to decline or will soon, but for now, he's still a top 15 player and you don't let an asset like that walk for nothing or sign and trade it for a bunch of quality role players and draft picks. Stars are most important and that's especially true when the other one is 5'11'' and pushing 32, with bad knees.
The best course of action is to maintain the core and hope one these years everything breaks right and they pull an '11 Mavericks. Clearly, they need to try desperately to pawn off Crawford on somebody, start taking fliers on young, inexpensive role players, with upside (guys like Goodwin and Acy, who the Nets snatched up) and drafting better.
-tier era tbh. Choked in the playoffs year after year after year. Time to fire Doc
what era? Era of ty state farm commercials?
Lmao "era"

I don't see them getting rid of the core of CP3-Blake-Jordan. They are a perennial 50 win team and that's something you don't break up in this league. They will follow the Mav's strategy from '00-'11 which is keep winning 50 or more games and just hope at least once you can have a fluky run and win it all.
No offense, but the Mavs are a terrible, lazy comparison. Dirk was the one constant in Dallas. They changed coaches and the core around Dirk several times. They didn't just keep running the Nash/Dirk/Finley core back every year until the wheels fell off.
But Balmer is a different kind of billionaire than Cuban. It remains to be seen if he's committed to winning a ring or just trying to keep the value of his team high so he can turn yearly profits. Mark eventually decided to spend for a ring, but he didn't want to do it twice. Balmer could spend to bring a ring to that franchise, but then he could also just dump it to someone else and pocket the difference, if there is any.
He doesn't seem like the kind of guy to walk away from a challenge though.
"you aint got no rings"
Not a lazy comparison I just didn't bother to expand on what I was getting at. Anyways your right that they kept Dirk and slowly over time change the core from Nash/Dirk/Finley to Dirk/Terry/Howard and then over it was Dirk/Terry/Chandler and bunch of a great role players for their only le run. I can see the Clippers going the same route with CP3/Blake/Jordan and keeping at least one of the 3 and slowly rebuilding the roster over time. I feel they will keep those 3 together until they can't do it anymore.
Obviously when it comes to coaching Doc is terrible. I don't know anything about Ballmer's relationship with Doc so I don't know how long he will stay with the Clips.
$2 billion to never make a conference finals
But at least we still made Basketball relevant in L.A.!while the Lakers continues to bring embarrassment to the city...
