Since trading Kawhi was such a popular idea I thought I'd throw out the idea of trading Green. Before people get their panties in a twist I'm not saying trade him, just looking at the pluses and minuses and what you would want to get in exchange for Green.

First why not trade Green. He's an elite 3 and D defender, all NBA level D, a very valuable asset in today's NBA and is a great compliment to Kawhi on the perimeter.

Why trade Green. He is potentially one of the Spurs more tradeable unen bered assets. He has one more year and then a player option in 2018-19 at $10 million when he'll be 31. Do you want to sign Green then at who knows what cost? Do you want to lose him then with no return or get something for him this off season?

Adam Hanga's Euroleague profile fits much of Green's profile minus 3 point shooting but better movement off the ball on offense.

Granted it's Euroleague vs NBA but if Spurs thought Chip could improve his shot he could help fill in for a lost Green depending on the assets the Spurs might get back.

What if any player or picks would you expect/want to get for Green?

Would rather keep Green. His 10 million salary is decent value compared with what other players will get in the offseason. Like his perimeter defense and especially like the idea of keeping Simmons and having 3 good perimeter defenders on the Spurs roster.

Love how all players suggested in a trade or a FA coming to the Spurs are tagged with 'Chip will fix his shot'.

Op, can you come up with a trade for 1 or 2 players that cost 10mil or less that both teams will agree upon?

Hanga and Green share many of the same attributes minus Hanga's better off ball movement and touch around the basket and Green's 3 point shot. Neither can create for themselves or bend the D. They can't be on the floor at the same time and I think Spur's will bring Hanga over. That said I'd rather Spurs keep Simmons and if they can trade Green to move up in the draft to get a player they're really hot on, a Kawhi-type I'd like to see them make the trade. Thibodeau would love to have Green but I know he's not getting a seven pick. Somewhere in mid teens IF Spurs see the right player and a team would bite.

The corollary to this is how much do you want the Spurs to pay Green in 2018 to keep him?

You trade green if packaged with other 10 or so millions nets you a disgusted superstar or star.
Players that may fit this category are Jimmy Butler, Paul George, Wade, etc.
I wouldn't trade him just to add parts similar to him or his caliber.

You wouldn't get anything for Green during the off-season, tbh..it wouldn't make sense for the Spurs or any other team, right now, unless he's in a package with one of the bigger contracts..

10 mil per year is around the salary of a 7th/8th man, next season..best you could hope for is a late-round pick at the deadline from a team in win-now mode, but the market changes every year(this past season would have worked, for example, since teams were trading 1sts for players like Bogdonovic and Williams, but it's not always the case)..

Not te point puf my post.
Te point is i only trade him for a significant upgrade player wise, wouldn't trade him just for a similar level of player at another position because his contract is too friendly.
A wet dream would be to package him and Gasol for a resigned Hayward.

    You sure?

He's got the highest block rate in NBA history among guards. He will get plenty of looks for All Defense this year. He held the finals record for three pointers made until the best shooter of all time broke it and is one of a handful of players who's a 40%+ three point shooter for his career while making at least 2.5 per game (Curry, Klay, Korver, Re and Green among guys who've started at least 100 games). So a top quartile defender (hard to argue that) and an elite shooter. That's two good things.

Im positive, he needs to go, has been sucking 3 years in a row, Clips 2015 1 good game out of 7, same last season, and this season had 2 good games during the whole playoff run, same Patty Mills I really like Patty but I dont want him in SA anymore.

Chip has a of a resume though. Look what he did for Blair's FT shooting, KL's FT shooting, KL's 3pt shot, Tony and Danny.... surely more. Guys who listen to him improve, but I don't think Tim ever listened to him because Tim never did put any arch on his shot. I think Chip didn't see a reason to with Tim's shot.

At least I can agree with you on Patty. Great guy, but not going to beat GS with him. If someone can't beat GS (same goes for Pau), then they have no reason to be here.

Yep. Would rather have both, given the choice, Danny stays.
