Remember when Tim Thomas of the Bruins was called a racist for not visiting Obama's White House after winning the Stanley Cup? Pepperidge Farm remembers:

Other reporters didn't go that far, but they still ripped him to shreds:

Thomas was pilloried by other media sources, if not quite being equated as a racist. Here in Canada, Sportsnet's Michael Grange wrote, "The Bruins shook hands with the Canucks, but Tim Thomas couldn't meet his president?" CBC's Tim Wharnsby asked, "Just wondering if down the road Thomas still will believe standing up for his political convictions in this manner was worth it."

"Shabby. Immature. Unprofessional. Self-centered. Bush league. Need I go on?" wrote Boston Globe hockey writer Kevin Paul Dupont. "All that and more applies to what Thomas did..."

How is it both ways? Trump is a de able piece of . He's a terrible person and a terrible president. What good reason did Tim Thomas have for not meeting with Obama?

LOL. Everyone thinks their own opinion is irrefutable fact. I could just as easily say that Obama was a "de able piece of ". Proves nothing, means nothing. It's an opinion. Just like assholes, everyone has one.

The difference is, I thought Thomas was an asshole for not attending the White House visit under Obama. For just this reason. Start this , and it just escalates. Be a grownup, go to the dog and pony show, and go home. Simple as that.

I dislike Trump, but I do think if it is a tradition to go to the White House, then go. Half the country voted for the guy. I see these people always wanting to have a discussion and teachable moments on racism. But when the other sides guy wins, its boycott time and shut down all discussion. Go there and tell him your feelings, but don't disrespect half the fans by telling them you don't respect their president.

Just out of curiosity... if there is a "de able piece of " in the arena, shouldn't the team boycott and not show up that night? Makes just as much sense. Which means no sense at all.

I'm a person that thinks it's a disgrace that a guy like Trump got to be the president of a nation, but I have to say that I can't argue with your point.

You either call out every athlete that decides not to meet the president or, even better, you let everyone do as they please.

You're forgetting a key factor separating Obama and Trump: one is respected by most of the world while the other has other countries laughing at us and is impeachable without having completed a year in office!

Not sure why people hate Trump. He's so ineffectual that he'll never get a thing passed. He's just a placeholder for the next president. I bet he doesn't even run next cycle as the novelty of it wears off.

Because he's evil-minded. The things you mention are true and that adds to his hatred. 4 years of nothing vital getting done is something to get angry about, tbh. Then again, if you think he's been ineffectual, you're not the target of his venom.

The Warriors would most likely go visit a President Pence. Pop's as left as they come in sports and never had a problem visiting Bush. Trump is a fascist piece of who got elected on white nationalism. Trump is not normal no matter how many false equivalences the right tries to throw out to pretend he is. I can't believe conservatives are happy with him hijacking their party and remaking it in his image.
