    I think if the ball is kicked during a field goal or extra point attempt & it hits the goalpost you get 1/2 a pt?

    say the total of the points is 51, and if you use over and under 51, 51 could not possibly win. only over 52, and under 51. hence the need for the 1/2 point.

    At least this is how it seems to me.
