lol knicks
What kind of MVP has his team go 17-8 without him?
teams are not that good overall and the Spurs had the easiest schedule ... they feasted at home where role players perform better ... thats it, Kawhi still belongs into MVP conversation IMO
Warriors have s winning record without curry too right? It's just the Cavs who are totally without bron.
LBJ is on track to win it this year tbh
It will be used against him. But Spurs are not elite without him.
Lol using regular season record as indicator of anything. Troll harder bro
Calm it down, ESPN.
Reigning MVP today has a losing record with 2 all star teammates. Lma stepping up and gay was a great addition to the team. Kawhi makes the team that much better. Hes proven he can carry the team on his back pretty far when needed to do so.
If Aldridge isn’t on the All Star team or getting (close) to an All NBA team, then people are basing everything off what happened this summer and not on the product in the court. And the 17-8, while an easy schedule, is more proof that Pop should be near the top of COTY discussion.
9 games over .500 is halfway to getting to 50 wins, yet only 30% through the schedule. 33-24 just to get to 50 wins is almost a shoe-in at this point. And the over/under was 53.5, so 37-20 to surpass it.
we're an elite team without kawhi on the strength of traditionally unparalleled depth, coaching and management. With that said, Kawhi is top 3 MVP by default simply on the strength of eye test.
Dumb thread
First of Kawhi cant even wipe his ass yet
Then, we are a 1st round exit team without Kawhi. With a healthy Kawhi we lose to Goldn Showers in 5 or 6
Without Kawhi this team would barely break 50 wins. With him, it is the second best team in the league. That's an MVP if I ever saw one, tbh.
I'm sure that the subconscious effort the rest of the team plays with is likely higher knowing somewhere in the back of their minds that an elite reinforcement will soon be back in the fold - that they'll be in the hunt for contention upon his return. They just have to "hold the fort". If Kawhi wasn't available at all (or not even on the roster), however, human nature kicks in and their diminished effort would likely produce a lower quality product, and via proxy a worse outcome than 17-8 (easy schedule notwithstanding).
It's evident to me that the Spurs are collectively playing better than the sum of their parts. Where Kawhi is needed is clearly visible in the Spurs' losses - in those games we had no one to lock down the best opposing player, and no one to snap long stretches of offensive funk. It's nice to see LMA take some of that burden upon himself - but sometimes the matchups aren't conducive for him to "go off" on the opponent. So while LMA is playing at an All-Star level - one needs All-NBA level talent for a team to be taken seriously (at least to be considered a contender). Kawhi is All-NBA on both sides of the ball. There's no one in the league, except maybe someone like Antetokounmpo, that can straight up guard Kawhi - which is a huge advantage in tight games. So yeah, not having that closer has produced some of the losses the team has incurred thus far this season.
He'll be a sight for sore eyes.

How likely is to fit in the criteria of the best player of the best team without having an already good team to play on?
He's missed too many games to get serious consideration this year anyway.
Absolutely. Aldridge has been all star quality this year and even all NBA
The year after Jordan retired (first time), Pippen had the Bulls in the ECF against the Knicks. LOL, Jordan must not have been an MVP either.
Took the words out of my mouth...
Kawhi is definitely leaving when his contract is up... You guys disgust me
MVP is a regular season award bro.
