On Friday we will once again being heading off to our hideaway in the hills, there we have the fireplace, the trees, the critters roaming around, the perfect place to enjoy the holidays. What we don't have is internet access, a big screen HD TV. It's more Jeremiah Johnson which everybody buys into. Now it's camp fires, hiking, roasting marshmellows, what was that (as some creature screams). I will gain 10 pounds before we return.

I did make one big mistake, when asked by everyone.....what do ya want for Xmas....I replied "House Of The Rising Sun" by James Lee Burke. The odds of me getting a half dozen "House Of The................ sheesh~~~~~~ Hopefully they got together and....so who gets that for him?

Socks, Cologne, CD's (I asked for) are cool. But.....they pale in comparision to.....

Davey Crockett at the Alamo (the fort/church, the Mexican Army, the defenders and little Davey....why was he half te size of the others?

The Revolutionary War (36 Redcoats, 36 bluecaoats, cannons, a plantation to defend)

    BB Gun

    Bike

    Transistor Radio

I guess the real proof of FINALLY growing up is when you really do get more joy out of giving than receiving. That is so true.

You've kind of stumbled upon a decent thread old timer.

What's been your favorite Christmas present?

I'll probably go with a bike I got. Rode that thing for years. All over town.

But close behind is Mattel's Electronic Football. I played that thing for hours and hours. Starting the play...moving to the bottom of the screen...defense all moves to the bottom...then break back to the top and rattle off an 80 yard TD. making a couple of moves in the process.

Or playing someone and they've get the ball first in the 1st half. So making sure you delay your last possession of the 1st half and score on the last play.

Yep, a bike I got at 13. It was a three speed and now I could actually out run dogs. Actually went looking for the ones who had tormented me when I was a slow poke. I had other bikes. The look on my face as I......come on punk catch me. Loved that bike, when it got stolen, I cried. My dad bought me another one just like it with a chain and lock.

I never got an Electric Football game for Christmas the reason being I got one for my birthday at around 10. Yep...Tudor.

As as kid I talked the neighbor kids into getting a game so we could have a league (4 teams), yep....we had a schedule, playoffs, a Championship game. I never won a Championship

I have been playing that game*** ever since and the one I own today is battery driven and ya have different speeds on both sides of the game. As ya know the players have their unique talents, so you find out who is fast/slow who runs to the right who runs to the left. As ya also know... those little passers and kickers....it just doesn't work. , I've kicked from the kitchen table to the frontroom. Noway ya can hit with those QB's. I roll the dice....even-complete, odd-incomplete, triple six INT.

I play where the ball carrier has to run out of bounds, turned around, totally stopped and pushed back. Far more..wow...runs playing that way as opposed to just being touched. I play where ya can turn the ball carrier once.

I have six hand painted teams. Fastest player in the league....Randall Cunningham.

*** own all the Techmo video games.

That's really old school. I remember being around 4 or 5 and watching my neighbors play that in their garage.

...do you remember the board game, NFL Quarterback? That was fun as . Offense and defense each pick their play and then a spinner determines the outcome.

Yep, I has a cousin who had the game. But.....I gotta have some visuals, just rolling dice, spinners, and playing with numbers...nay.

What are the odds? I came across a game similiar to that one a few years ago at a yardsale. I thought...what the . It came with info for two teams, the NFC Niners my fav team, the AFC Chiefs my fav AFC team. Wow~~~ But....it bored me.

I did make a track game, had my track with little squares, so ya roll the dice and move so many squares, a double gets ya another square.

    Long jump

    Dice

    2...26 feet
    3...26-6

    etc etc etc

    12...29 feet

That sort of thing for all the events.

That sounds fun as . It reminds me of this game I invented. I'd get out all of my baseball cards and football cards and assign every card a unique number based on the letters in their name. If two players had the same value, I'd then go to their hometown to differentiate.

Then I'd have a pair of dice and start rolling them. When the total ulative sum of the dice equaled the unique number of one of the players, I'd pull that card out. I'd do it again and pull out the second card. So this was a pair.

I'd do that over and over until I had a couple hundred pairs. Then I'd shuffle all the cards up and do it again.

    Genius~~~~~~~~ Love it.

I'd make little squares on index cards, write in....Trenton Jackson Illinois 9.4....Roscoe Cook Oregon 9.3...Hal Busby UCLA 9.3.....I had them all, Bob Hayes FAMU 9.1....a couple hundred. Then cut them out and toss the names in a coffee can. Now it's the 4x1 relay....

I pick...Richard Stebbins Grambling 9.2, then in lane two...Willie McGee Alcorn 9.1....ok lane two has a yard advantage. I pick again....Darel Newman Fresno State 9.2, lane two....Tom Jones UCLA 9.4....yep, now lane one has a yard advantage, I pick again......

I had another can with over 500 pro rasslers in it.....

I reach in....Lou Thesz, his opponet...Moondog Mayne...or his tagteam partner.
