DJ has a great determination about him. He was PO'd at nephew last year when nephew quit on the team. I will no long use a former player's name (the nephew) because he is not worthy of respect. Danny Green on the other hand? I like that guy. He was a team guy the whole time he was here.

Will DJ be a special player for the Spurs? Not sure, but I like the fire in his belly. He's a worker.

Exactly, Anderson was just as important to last season's defense but they are all gone now. Team needs to move on, (new) players need to step up on that end and the media/fans need to stop worrying about the losses (in personnel).

The defense won't be as good as last season but the offensive improvement should offset that.

Advanced metrics say he was an "elite" level defender last season. Of course, the eye test tells you he's a good team defender, has great instincts or defensive IQ and quick hands (ala Ron Artest), but is susceptible to getting beat off the dribble (poor lateral quickness).

He'll be missed even if he wasn't/isn't a great one - on - one defender.

Also, I think Blossomgame can make up for the loss of Anderson at least as a team defender. It may take a year on a two - way deal for him to learn more, continue to develop a three - point shot and gain Pop's trust. He has the physical traits and athleticism to be a plus defender in the NBA.

It's not really good answer. It's a fine mentality to move on with whom you have. But Leonard's the only one who deserves to be dismissed like that. It wasn't Green or Anderson holding out all season. Danny didn't ask to be traded. Tony would have stayed had the Spurs committed to him. Anderson was trying to get paid. Had the question been something like, "Have you been watching Leonard's performance this pre-season? He looks pretty healthy to me," Murray saying he doesn't care is great. But as an answer to a question about how the defense moves on after losing so many defenders, it feels thoughtless. I think the Spurs should have a chip on their shoulder this year, so the abrasiveness probably works. He just needs to work on his phrasing to make it come off as determined rather than sore.

Note: So there isn't any confusion this response is in response to Kobe'sAchilles' post.....

Agreed, that's why I said "advanced metric" and not my opinion. He isn't average to below average one - on - one because of his poor lateral quickness.

He's good to great when he's not asked to defend in isolation.

regarding anderson defense, he sure loves to attempt topick pocket when at midcourt cause he wont be beaten off the dribble, now if that dribbler is in the halfcourt setting up...he usually gets beat there..

I think his point whether coming across "abrasively" is that the team has moved on. They aren't concerned with players no longer on the team and are trying to build a defensive iden y with who they have.

It may have or have not been poor phrasing, but his overall point is valid. The defense may slip a bit statistically, but they still have some capable and potentially serviceable defenders on hand.

I got his point. But the question wasn't about Kawhi, so an answer focused on how little Leonard is the focus doesn't jive well. Like if you had a girlfriend who left you, and someone asks, "So how are you keeping your apartment without her half of the rent?" Saying, "She's gone. No one cares. I've moved on," is a weird answer. On the other hand, it would be a fine answer if someone asked, "Hey did you see what she said about you on Facebook?" The implicature of the former situation suggests at best a dogged determination to shut down any line of questioning that mentions the GF or more likely a tremendous amount of butt-hurt under a thin veil of feigned nonchalance. I actually think Murray is closer to just wanting to move on than he is still upset about the situation. He wasn't really on the team long enough to really feel like Kawhi betrayed him personally. But way he answered the question calls that into doubt, especially for people who haven't followed Murray much. That's why I think he needs to refine his phrasing better.

lol yeah I was just messing around. He's not a starter so asking him to defend guys like KD is unfair. But this advance metrics stuff is so flawed. Either you can guard elite scorers or you can't. And Kyle couldn't. He is a good team defender though when he doesn't do that lazy reach around steal bs.
