I liked what he has shown in the preseason... I think with our roster, and outlook, he deserves playing time... But this is exactly what I've been saying about Pop... We will never know how good certain players can be until later in their career, if at all...

Kuzma looked like a steal for the Lakers because he played and showed what he could do... If he was drafted by the Spurs, he wouldn't have gotten playing time, and would have seemed like any other bench fodder... Whether metu plays or not, we will get trounced in the playoffs... Why are we keeping him on the bench?

The analogy I've always made is that Steph curry would have been just a good point guard for us... Not a hall of fame... Because the second he took a 40 footer, he would have been neutered... Pop can help players become great... But only if they become great the way HE wants you to become great... Fall outside of that spectrum and ur gone

I do not know what good Metu will be, but surely Donovan Mitc would not have the status he has today if he had been drafted by SA

I somewhat agree with this post - but was more worried about Walker getting some time on the court.
I'm sure Pop knows what he is doing but sometimes you have to just play young talent and allow them to make mistakes.
I think Derrick White needs to play a lot when he returns, he looks like he might be a player.

I read an article somwhere that the Spurs were looking at him as more of a Small forward. I assume in the mold of a kevin durant-light, same way Bryn Forbes is a steph curry light. Which would explain why the Spurs did not address the small forward spot with such urgency. Maybe the spurs staff have him working on his ball handling and passing, which seemed pretty good for a man his size. No need to rush him and let him lose confidence.

Our second round picks may improve at a greater trajectory but at what expense? We could probably give metu a load of minutes but we would probably be 2-6 and everyone would be calling for Pop's head. Kuzma developed will but how did the Lakers do last year and now?

You can't use the Steph Curry analogy without using Kawhi as an example. He would not have been the player he is today without falling within the Spurs system either.

I wonder why Metu hasn't been assigned yet to the Austin Spurs. It is not like he's in the rotation.

Yep. Not a first year contributor unless the idea is to tank until next year or heaven forbid more injuries

Yeah if he is is not on G League team and still on Spurs team then I think they have plans for him this year.

Agree. I think the plan was to make him a wing, but Dante is holding up so...

Spurs need all the help they can in that position, he would probably be playing more if he was looking above average (even if Pop does not have the habit of using their rookies)

I don't know how good popovich thinks a guy is gonna get playign 3 minutes a game every 3 games. But hey, he's the goat that insists on giving a roster spot each season to someone in their 40s or approaching it.

If you guys think that a non draft and stash, very late second-round pick will play meaningful minutes in his rookie season, then your dreaming.

Is it possible that Pop is waiting to see if we are playoff contenders before committing to play him or sending him to Austin? In the meanwhile we don’t need the roster spot, and Metu gets exposure to his teammates on the big club...
