MB - I agree. I think that Odom is a TOP 10 NBA talent, if he could just consolidate his game in the right organization. I think that you can get Odom, AND maybe one of those centers. His rebounding and shotblocking would make up for their lack thereof. I think someone needs to call Sterling's bluff. He can NOT be allowed to tie up that much NBA talent on the cheap. er.

IMO, Odom would be the least likely to be matched of the Clipper's 3 RFA because of his "problem". Huge risk, but could very well be worth it. Although if he does get busted and tossed, then what?

One thing of note: in spite of all of the rumors that Sterling loves Odom, it was Brand that got the offer from the LAC.

Love to see this guy with us.

During my trip he was the all-'round most talented balla I saw after Tim and TMac...

How good is Odom's defense? Pop will improve Odom's defense but how solid is it right now, on the inside, on the outside? I know he is a good offensive player, but I would like to see a good defender at sf. I envision a tall sf stepping out on Dirk Nowitzki and being able to play him one on one.

His D is like most NBA players'...fine when he wants to play it. You do raise a good point that his height would be an asset against the larger small forwards in the league on D.

After being in Clipper his whole career I have a strong hunch Odom would be ready to contend for some bling. Once he gets a taste of winning I think he would be a beast, a poor man's Kevin Garnett and the ideal complement for Tim and Tony.

Odom defintely has the size to defend Nowitzki. I think he could handle that assignment, given the right motivation. It's not like Dirk is quicker than him, that's for sure. I haven't seen Odom play before, except highlights, so I don't know too much about his D, but he averaged 1.2 steals per game in his rookie season and 1.6 blocks in his second for what that's worth. I also think Odom is exactly the guy we need to counter a team like Phoenix with their long armed athletic players because of, well, his long arms and his athleticism. He can hit the three if needed or put the ball on the floor. Good passer (11 assists in a game five times in his career), decent rebounder (career high sixteen, average around seven), typical Spur from the free throw line. He puts up some nice all around games and was a triple double threat a lot of nights with the Clips.

My only reservation -- the MJ rap doesn't bother me none -- is his recent injury history, as he has averaged 39 games the last two seasons. Yikes. But he played 76 a piece in his first two years, and that leads me to think maybe he just got sick of playing for a loser.

A lot of hunches, but Odom joining this squad would be something to be kind of excited about I think. I would take it.

And that point is that Odom is the only true superstar talent available. The kid can do it all. He and TD would be an incredible duo. We are all used to the Twin Towers concept and I think that leads to a certain bias in our discussions towards the Spurs acquiring a bigman talent. Odom's game might be a better fit for TD. Odom would give TD a perimeter player who can take a game over. A player with great court vision and handles. Odom's game is all about making those around him better. Put him in SA and he thrives. The Spurs would be fun as to watch for the general non-bball afficiando public with TP, Manu, and Jack running along with them. There are a number of question marks but Odom definitely has the game. Get in now on this, Spurs. Give TD that 2nd star.

With it starting to look like Rasho Nestero will be our starting center, I'd hope Odom will be our man.

    Minute break down?

    PG: Parker 35, ? 8, Manu 5
    SG: Jackson 21, Manu 27
    SF: Odom 27, Bowen 27, Jackson 4
    PF: Duncan 35, Odom 8, Rose 5
    C : Rasho 33, Rose 25

Slight concern about Manu and Jack's minutes. 4 could be a crowd at the 2/3 - Maybe reduct Rasho's minutes, and putting all of Malik's minutes at the 5- giving Odom more minutes at the 4 and Jackson more minutes at the 3 (and Manu more at the 2).

All that is true, but what is extinguishing my hope is that Miller and Mageette are going bye-bye, along with Olowokandi. That makes me think Sterling would match offers for Brand and Odom.

Odom can also run the offense some. Bowen's used primarily as a spot up shooter and defensive specialist as needed so his minutes might be less. Nesterovic would be a good fit for a team like that.

Ghost, Donald Sterling committing to $120 mil+ in guaranteed salaries? Um, no.

I didn't think so last week and everyone gave me a hard time about it. Marcus.

I would want Odom for $10 million. More than that and he's not a bargain anymore. Don't forget about the pot and the injuries. Granted, he is the only one left that has superstar potential.

I'd be weary of using Bowen as a specialty player. He'll need to be in top shape to put up defensive performances against the Kobes of the world like he did this season. I don't know what affect playing 18 minutes one game and then having to play 35 against Kobe would have on his body.

Bowen will be more well-rested for Kobe, scott. Think.

Bowen should be used as a defensive subs ution like he was in the playoff anyway. The fact that he starts is just window-dressing. He doesn't finish anymore, thank Pop.

The key isn't finding a "bargain" at this point it is finding worthy talent. He has that talent.

I wouldn't pay too much more than $10 million for talent that gets injured, is more SF than PF and will be suspended the next time he gets caught taking hits from the bong.

    Would you?

    More importantly, would the Spurs?

    Question.

Yes I would. The Spurs don't have shots at superstar talent like this everyday. Stop hating on him just because he's a balla and get with the times.

So you would offer more than $10 million for Odom.

Would you wait the 15 days in spite of the 'wealth' of free agent talnet out there now?

    Question.

It's like this...you secure a "big" since most Spurs fans have a hardon for that though I would look at Arenas first. **** needs. Then make the offer to Odom. If Odom doesn't come then you still have your wonderful "needs" met or you have one of a perimeter talent in Arenas coming and then you can explore trades with your remaining cap flexibility to give you whatever else you may want and/or "need".

If it's only going to take about $6 million the first year to get Rasho, the Spurs can indeed make a run at Odom, etc. If nothing can be struck with Brand today, Rasho's the bird in hand.
