After Thursday's 27-7 home loss to Atlanta on national television, the Detroit Lions' playoff hopes are finished. Now it appears their coach may be done too.

The Lions are in discussions that could lead to the firing of head coach Steve Mariucci possibly as early as Friday, according to reports in the Detroit Free Press and on WJBK-TV in Detroit. After two and a half disappointing years with Mariucci at the helm, the loss to the Falcons on Thanksgiving may have been the final straw.

WHY because if what the announcers have said on national tv that soem players do not even come to practice with the right at ude then it starts with the coach. Either he has lost the team or he does not know what is going on. Also watching the game when they put in garcia the coaches went to the wide receivers and coached them but with the other quarterback they did not.

Don't get me wrong, I think Mooch deserves a lot of that, especially if he can't even get them to practice right, but Millen's had years to get this right.

But millen was just signed to the most meaningless contract extension ever!

(he got a 5 year extension, with no guaranteed money so it can be canceled at any time.)

I think Millen undercuts all his coaches and just meddles too much for them to do anything.

He is a part of the problem up there.

Don't get me wrong, I think Mooch deserves a lot of that, especially if he can't even get them to practice right, but Millen's had years to get this right.

The quarterback situation is horrible, the receivers haven't done much (exception, R Williams is a winner on a losing team) and the offensive line is suspect at best.
There's plenty of blame to go around and it starts at the top with Millen.

YES. He's put together a horrible roster. His drafting of WRs is only funnier than the NBA Toronto Raptors continued picking of PFs. Ford should have canned his ass after that embarrassing confrontation with ex-Lion Johnny Morton, during which he called Morton a got. Yeah, that's a class act representing your organization.

I would have compared it to the knicks stockpiling of swing players, but other than that, you're spot on.
