Addressing an Economic Outlook Conference, Perryman told those area business leaders that the San Antonio region would gain upwards of 87,000 new jobs by 2009. He added that the Alamo City was well-positioned to take real advantage of its geographical location along the increasingly important IH-35 Corridor.

The qty is important but the quality is, too.

87,000 new jobs that are mostly minimum-wage and/or low-paying manual labor/"hamburger-flipping" jobs just confirms SA's status as 1.8 million population area with a comparatively low per-capita income vs Houston, Austin, Dallas.

SBC is saying to expect a flood of ATT exec immigrants. Toyota will bring a few execs and engneers, but the design, equipment, and most of the parts will be mfr'd elsewhere.

How is the NAFTA/IH-35 road traffic important, other than SA as re-fueling truckstop or illegal drugs distribution center? Is anybody really missing the blue-jean/clothing sewing sweat shops that closed in SA and were here to exploit the low-wage "Mexican" employees?

Perryman's forecast in the article was done last December.

Perryman's been doing these Economic Outlook's for a long, long time. Some of his stuff sticks and some of it doesn't. He does gather data, package it and pass it along, though, and that part is interesting and informative.

The EDF site can also give people an idea of San Antonio's growth and future, since they work with prospective businesses for SA to lure and incent.

Some high level ATT execs will be moving in but expect a lot of current SBC execs to lose their jobs in the reorganization as well. When you merge two huge organizations like this there is just too much reduncancy, especially at the upper levels.
