Well, i don't see Nazr and Rasho as allstars
How are the candidates on the All Star game ballot chosen? For the last 3 years, Bowen has not been on the ballot, even though he's been a starter. Nesterovic was on the ballot last year. This year, Bowen is on the ballot, as is Duncan and Horry under the forwards. But the Spurs have no one on the list of centers. This makes no sense.
Well, i don't see Nazr and Rasho as allstars
you can chose any of the non listed players in thr drop down menu below the main list.
I assumed Rasho was always nominated.
Had known this wasn't the case, I would have bragged so much more about him making the list last year. =)
I guess you're gonna have to write them in.
Rasho was actually 4th among voting for Cs last year. Yao, Shaq, Brad Miller... Rasho!
Manuficient sig.....xcoriate
He better have been after all those darn ballot sheets I had to punch out.![]()
the voting is really just a joke as nice as it is for the fans to vote for who they want to see, they always get so many spots wrong. Yao over Shaq the last 2 years Shaq was in the west. Vince carter starting his last 2 years in Toronto, now Timmy might lose his spot to mcgrady, it is just bad.
I think the fans need to have access to SCOUTING REPORTS BEFORE THEY VOTE! That way, we can tell them, "Read the scouting reports FIRST! Then, vote!" But even then, they wouldn't care. They'd rather see the flashiest players in the All-Star game than the best players. Personally, I'd rather have Elton Brand over Tracy McGrady, but not over Tim Duncan.
But my question was - HOW do they decide who gets on? I thought all the teams starting 5 automatically made it on, which should mean either Rasho or Nazr should be listed, and Horry should not. Regardless of who DESERVES to be an All Star. That's a different question.
Yao will be a starter from now on no matter what happens. He has a whole country behind him.....at least I believe they can vote in China
That's never been the standard. I think the league makes the decision about who makes the ballot. SOmeone in the league office decides that there should be, say, 30 candidates at guard and forward and 15 at center in each league. After that, I think they take nominations from the teams (I'm not really sure about that, but it seems familiar to me). But ultimately, the league decides which 30 guards and forwards and which 15 centers should be on the ballot. It might vary by year with trades, exposure of certain guys, and shifts in power between the conferences.
With Rasho and Nazr, it may be that since neither was going to be a starter and neither was going to get consistent minutes in the early part of the season, the league decided that Horry (who was likely to get consistent minutes) would be a more likely choice. Or it could be that the Spurs organization didn't nominate either Rasho or Nazr and, instead, nominated Horry. I honestly don't know.
I think these are subjective decisions made by the league office based on their predictions of which players will draw the most attention during the year and therefore the most votes.
Every year some players get left off who should have been on the list and other players are on there who make you scratch your head and say, "hunh?" Every team gets at least one player on the list, whether they deserve it or not.
That's pretty helpful. So the league office and teams might get to submit names of who they want? I had thought it was a more uniform decision, like anyone who was on the starting roster the year before, or something.
I wonder whose idea it was to put Bowen on the ballot? He won't get it - he doesn't score enough, and the All Star game isn't about defense - but it's nice to see him honored.
Yes. In those oft-repeated Hollywood words..."It's an honor to be nominated."

on current form you couldnt deny Camby as an all star C... and Okur (im shocked at that as well) but we all know Ming will start at Center behind 8473084742374 votes![]()
