Terrible perimeter defense.
What would be the strengths and weaknesses of this lineup?
Graham-Branham-Vassell-Johnson-Wembanyama
I’ll hang up and listen.
Terrible perimeter defense.
It’s probably asking way too much of Victor on the defensive end since most of those guys are poor defenders (except Devon). Swap Keldon for Sochan.
That said I do like idea of Graham at PG. The spacing and shooting with Tre, Sochan, and Collins starting together is pretty poor.
Okay, all discussions of defense based on the previous season's performance need to be tabled, imo. The Spurs successfully used poor defense to tank their way to the number one pick; let's not pretend that was an accident.
I'm assuming you mean this is a starting lineup, but I'll evaluate it both ways.
First off, Sochan may very well be in the conversation for best player on the team. I don't understand most suggestions that he come off the bench, particularly if we are putting Keldon back at the 4 and simultaneously making Tre the backup point guard. Sochan needs to start. (BTW: "he came off the bench for Baylor" is a silly argument. They got upset in the second round)
Graham is at the top of my list of veterans to upgrade via free agency. But he has a quick trigger and isn't afraid to let it go. Those are two things you want in a guy playing with Victor. That said, if you're looking for an upgrade at point guard, he ain't it. He and Dougie are sharpshooters, and their minutes are determined by their output. As an in-game lineup, I'm cool with finding a place for him, but he shouldn't start.
This lineup definitely surrounds Victor with shooters. I am expecting Branham to show up to camp with an improved three, and Keldon and Devin shot the Spurs to some wins last year. Graham seemed to be hot and cold. On the defensive side, Wembanyama is the cure for any number of ills. In France, opposing guards dribble through the paint and don't even look at the rim. You could put a short lineup of mismatches like this around him and survive. Not sure you want to make a habit out of it unless you're just scoring too many points for it to matter.
Branham to the bench and Sochan at PF, slide DV/KJ down and i think it's a good lineup. but with Graham/Keldon/Branham all on the court at once the perimeter defense would be terrible even with Wemby behind them
No Defense, lacking overall length outside of Wemby, and a chucker at point guard. What could possibly go wrong?
Can probably get away with one bad defender in the lineup, not three.
That looks like a good down-by-12-to-start-the-fourth-we-gotta-try-something lineup. Graham next to Wemby will probably be the highest volume three-point shooter in Spurs history. Add the team's three best perimeter scorers and that could be explosive offensively.
D will be bad unless Vassell refocuses on defense again and Branham takes a giant leap forward on that end.
