Its because schools have large numbers of people in small areas.
Most states allow law abiding citizens to carry a handgun (after taking some easy tests, a background check, and then given a license) but not on school campuses. Are all of these mass murders taking place at schools because they are easy targets and the students have no way of defending themselves?
Its because schools have large numbers of people in small areas.
Ahh guns . . . you gotta love them.
Cue....Michael Moore....He was a prophet...
January 2006, Virginia Tech administrators proudly proclaimed how safe their school would be when honest citizens were banned from posessing legally-permitted guns.
I wonder how that “safe feeling” is working out for you today, Larry?A bill that would have given college students and employees the right to carry handguns on campus died with nary a shot being fired in the General Assembly.
House Bill 1572 didn’t get through the House Committee on Militia, Police and Public Safety. It died Monday in the subcommittee stage, the first of several hurdles bills must overcome before becoming laws.
The bill was proposed by Del. Todd Gilbert, R-Shenandoah County, on behalf of the Virginia Citizens Defense League. Gilbert was unavailable Monday and spokesman Gary Frink would not comment on the bill’s defeat other than to say the issue was dead for this General Assembly session.
Virginia Tech spokesman Larry Hincker was happy to hear the bill was defeated. “I’m sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly’s actions because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus.”
Great. Because we all know criminals will abide by such policies. Meanwhile, someone who could’ve taken the perpetrator out before he ran his score up to 32+ was prevented from doing so because some administrators wanted to give the tuition-paying customer base a false sense of security.Last spring a Virginia Tech student was disciplined for bringing a handgun to class, despite having a concealed handgun permit. […] In June, Tech’s governing board approved a violence prevention policy reiterating its ban on students or employees carrying guns and prohibiting visitors from bringing them into campus facilities.
No, smeagol, I don't love my gun. I love my family and have a cons utionally protected right to bear arms as one of the tools I can employ to protect them.
So having guns in dorms and classrooms would have done the trick? Right Yoni... That's what we need to do..arm 18 and 19 yr olds on college campuses.. that would be a responsible thing to do!!
No way to know but, had at least one of the students been armed, the death toll may not have reached 32 before the sick bas was taken out.
What we do know is that making them illegal didn't prevent his rampage, did it?
Ah, you added more.
We need to allow people to carry weapons if they choose and if they receive the proper training and all the other requirements that go with responsible gun ownership.
Yep.
Hey, we arm 18 and 19 year old Marines in the military. Are you saying College students are less responsible?
Let's put it this way I won't feel all warm fuzzy on the inside if my son lived ina dorm hall that allowed for firearms to be present. You trust an awful lot of teenagers away from home for the first time to act responsibly. Throw in all of the irresponsible drinking, the fights that occur, and the emotional immaturity that alot of teens exhibit with guns and you have a recipe for disaster. Let's say your kid starts to see Suzy blow job and her ex shows up drunk with his gun. I guess your ok with a shoot out with other innocent dormies caught in the corssfire? I won't won't question the right to bear arms but allowing what your proposing is ludicrous even for you.
You are crazier than what I thought
Less responsible than Marines trained for combat?Hey, we arm 18 and 19 year old Marines in the military. Are you saying College students are less responsible?
Yes.
this country would never give up the "right to own a gun".
I also think places like downtowns or malls would be great targets for psychos. in truth, guns make it much easier for an average deranged to kill dozens of ppl in minutes.
the right to bear arms will always have this drawback. we just need to accept it and deal w/it.
Well, if he were behind door number 32 and #31 had concealed carry permit, you might feel a bit warmer and fuzzier today.
You assume all college students are going to get concealed carry permits. In fact, the irresponsible ones probably won't take the time or spend the money necessary to acquire one. It would have only taken one who was legally carrying to end this rampage.
1) Your premise assumes Suzy's homicidal ex is going to worry about the law when he shows up at her dorm in a murderous rage and, 2) I'd like for my kid to have a concealed carry permit so he's stand a chance when Suzy's homicidal ex shows up with a gun in a murderous rage.
The right to carry makes it much easier to stop such a deranged individual before he can reach his full potential.
I don't see it as a drawback. I don't know if this guy in Virginia had a concealed-carry permit but, I doubt it. So, given that assumption, their gun control law had zero affect on today's events.
If there had been a concealed-carry law there is at least the possibility he would have been stopped before he had killed so many.
yeah. because we all carry our guns to our class, church, mall, park![]()
It is easier to acquire a gun legally than to do it illegally. I am guessing this guy got his gun legally, but who knows.I don't see it as a drawback. I don't know if this guy in Virginia had a concealed-carry permit but, I doubt it. So, given that assumption, their gun control law had zero affect on today's events.
If there had been a concealed-carry law there is at least the possibility he would have been stopped before he had killed so many.
Criminals and mass murders will always be able to get their hands on guns if they want them no matter what gun laws are passed. If students and faculty had carry permints and those permits allowed them to carry into classes and dorms the death toll would not have reached 32.
I do -- if the premises and state law allow.
There's a difference between owning a gun and carrying one legally.
That's a fact, Jack.
It's not a fact at all. Exactly how many concealed carry permits would you expect to see in a student body of 28,000?
For the record, I'm fine with carry permits -- I just don't think the numbers and situation would be much different since very few students and faculty would actually get the permit AND carry the gun if allowed.
How many students have been killed on that campus in the last 10 years?
Say 1000 out of 26000, only 4%, on the VT campus carried concealed weapons. That should be enough to have concealed weapon in, or very close to, about every student grouping.
How long would it take for those 1000 handguns, accidentially, intentionally, to kill 32 students and injure 30 more?
560 women are killed each year by their partner from impulsive domestic violence from a handgun.
Yeah, that's worth the possibility of saving a fraction of 32 college kids lives.
The right to own guns is an artifact from a different society 230 years back.
gun problem is a national issue, but even with gun laws and in the place, you still get cheap imitations from across the border sneakn in
shut the up with the 560 women die blah blah blah, women need to shut the up and quit causing bad to happen
that is the dumbest ive ever heard,
