I think Barnes has been a good addition. His is not a punishment. Quite the opposite.

The Spurs need a sixth man who can show up and score. Julian is like Finley back in the day; he plays better when starting.

The young guys need run at this point. The older vets need to just help guide the ship without being burned out, IMO.

If CP is going to be here past the trade deadline, I'd consider bringing him off the bench to give him a chance to produce against second teams and to keep everything steady when Vic takes his first rest.

Also, finishing lineups should be determined by who is playing well in the game. This team is too young and inconsistent to be so rigid with lineups.

Apologies for year another new thread. Those of us who think the Spurs are going to stand pat at the TD should start talking about changes that can be made.

What would be your suggestion for the starting lineup then?

I get the idea, we need to do something anyway, but I think that after a few games we'll all want Barnes back in the starting lineup.

Barnes's IQ, fundamentals and feel for the game shouldn't be taken for granted vs Champ's limitations in those areas.

Maybe he's just in a (long) slump but Champ has been horrific recently, messing up so many plays on both ends

Possible. However, in no way am I taking what Barnes contributes for granted. I think he would be more effective and less gassed in a bench role. Conversely, Julian is a good shooter, a good defender, has the clutch gene and, as you said, is really struggling. A wake up call is worth a shot. Barnes has shown he's mature enough to keep the kids in line
