Live and die by the THREE street ball.
Well I think Wemby is the greatest athlete to ever play basketball and arguably sports, but in today's league there's no reason he shouldn't be averaging 40 PPG minimum. Coaches need to scheme him at the basket more like Duncan. I know he's not as meaty as Timmy but he's tall enough so that doesn't matter.
Tonight's ending was fun to watch live but basically him coming back and winning the game like 2004 era Tracy McGrady with all those threes at the end is not a long term winning solution. He's got to stop being a perimeter player and start being the 7'4" dominant juggernaut at the rim he was born to be.
Plus, he's an excellent free throw shooter compared to almost every other big guy to ever play. His free throw % is virtually the same as Manu's, not Duncan's. No excuse for him to not be at the rim just about every possession. This offense is way too scatterbrained and the role players around ignore him and get selfish way too often. Gone is the teamwork, the beautiful game, the high-low, the four-down offense.
Players are so damn stupid and chuck up early shots way too much. Gone are the days of fun-to-watch, hard-fought halfcourt execution and BBIQ. It's glorified pickup basketball. Nobody really bothers to jump out and defend the corner three or threes in general anymore because they figure they can just get it back on the other end. It's just like streetball at the duck pond or something.
8-2. Nice. But, this game has never been more luck-oriented, make-or-miss, or random. The Spurs could just as easily be 2-8.
Live and die by the THREE street ball.
Case in point tonight, and kairotic, Stef Carry permanently wrecked the NBA about a decade ago and it's been a dog product ever since.
All hail ISIS, which coincided with the rise of the Golden Showers gots and Stef Carry.
And the gimmicky neon version of the Alamodome era Spurs court on display at Frost Bank Arena tonight looked like a dog "NBA Jam" replica at a Dave & Buster's or some .
In this most recent game Curry shot as many free throws as the entire Spurs (14) while the Warriors shot 32, with the game away on a back to back. Ai put the odds of that happening against an 8-2 team at about 3% and called for an investigation.
It doesn't matter if he averages 25 or 45 a game. It only matters if the team wins. I have come to dislike (despise is a strong word) the NBA for their connection to gambling while turning up their nose to players who do the same thing.
I mean sure, there were games back in the day when Duncan had like 11 points and 25 rebounds and the Spurs beat the Heat 67-65, Bill Land was practically falling asleep, and Sean Elliott had a sore throat so he wasn't much better. But in this era of arcadey glorified pickup basketball where offense is no fun to watch as it's basically all 32 teams running ghettofied Nash-era SSOL Suns offense, whelp except for the fact that Nash was actually fun to watch individually. Make one or two passes (maybe) and chuck the first three available, if the double comes one pass and a layup. Also, nobody plays defense. No reason in this era someone like Wemby shouldn't be averaging Wilt Chamberlain numbers. The other players on the team are obviously far inferior.
Except the do play defense, just the type of defense that can be played in a transition game.
it's all gambling, it's either force a turnover (with numbers going the other way) or give up a wide open three or layup.... not the type of solid defense played in the halcyon days of the NBA
in football terms, this would be playing base cover zero double safety blitz every down and either getting sacks/TFLs or takeaways or giving up long TDs every play...
in baseball terms, pitching a fastball strike every pitch and either getting guys out quickly or giving up home runs...
I don't think those NBA days had the 3pt shooting that they have today, maybe because they were math re ed and they didn't train or plan for a 3pt barrage. The teams of today would bury those teams in points, and sure, some big would get 50 a game because they passed to the post on every play. At some point that pass became as much to move defense as to get the post look, then the kickout and the 3 became the thing. Phoenix was at the forefront of that, San Antonio right behind them. There's not going to be a time when 2 points is better than 3.
you're going to have to move back the three point line and honestly kill the corner three, just make the three point line a straight line around 30ft from the hoop, there's still value in spacing and corner jumpers even if they're worth 2 points but if it's easier than a contested shot in the post for a 7 footer then it is too much of a deus ex machina shot to have in the game to exist.
