Burglars cart off safe on sledge

Burglars stole a 23-stone safe from an Austrian ski resort and escaped down the mountain on an old wooden sledge.
According to the owners of the Altenmarkt resort in Pongau, there was around £13,500 in the safe.

A police spokesman said: "After hotel staff heard noises at around 3am, three men were spotted leaving by a back door, carrying the safe.

"They loaded it onto one of those old wooden sledges, which are actually very fast, and took off down the mountain.

"When the weather clears we will try and follow their tracks. This sleigh ride will end with the jingling of cell doors."
