no he signed a 1 year deal
anyone else watch his team win yesterday? i know it was tape delayed but i thought he looked very promising. great rebounder, nice energy on defense - his man scored 25 or so but just seemed to be hitting a lot of j's. they seemed more interested in shooting 3s than getting him the ball inside, but i guess that's euroleague. he will have to adjust to the nba game, but he seems to have more of an nba physique than most other euroleague centers. the announcers claimed the pep in his step was back, and he had good ups. does he have an outrageous buyout?
no he signed a 1 year deal
he looks like a solid C
doesn't have much of a jumper, but he is strong and could be a good backup C in NBA
It's tough to predict exactly how well he'd do in the NBA since he's always the strongest guy on the court. He does have NBA athleticism to be sure -- he runs the floor well and loves contact. His offense for this game pretty much consisted knocking his smaller defender (like Maceo Baston) out of the way and dunking or going to the line (where he's a pure Spur 50% or so).
Defensively he's very active in a Spur-like help defensive strategy, missed a few rotations but got a huge block late. He had a tough cover in Nikola Vujcic, who could be characterized as a smaller Vlade Divac without too much exaggeration. Probably not athletic enough of the NBA, but Vujcic is a good shooter and great passer who could get anyone to bite on a ball fake, and he got Javtokas to bite quite often. Robertas would probably be much more effective against a more traditional post scorer.
I think he'd be a little foul prone in the NBA, and his offense lacks the jumper that would make him truly compatable with Duncan. That said, he'd probably playing more than Oberto is right now as he would simply be better able to defend more NBA players.
I think Robertas is a center too much for the Spurs. It will be either Javtokas or Scola but not both of them. Which? Oberto and his game after the All-Star game will tell the tale...
Well if Marks and Nazr leave this summer there will be plenty of room.
Oh and for you Aussies out there Matt Nielsen is right where he needs to be at this time - in Europe as a backup PF. Nice energy but prone to mistakes and no perimeter game.
he didn't look like NBA material last night, but that's just one night.
Matty Nielsen probably should have made the jump to Europe a little earlier. He played in the NBL for quite a while and was regarded as the best player here but he's getting on now. Good to here some reports of him.
The aussie to watch in Erope is David Andersen, he can play and is young enough as well. Atlanta holds his rights from a few years ago.
BTW how mahinmi doin? isnt the asg just pass?
It was yesterday.
I didn't watch the game.
Mahinmi stats :
9 min
6 rbd (4 offensives)
6 pts (3/4FG, 0/3FT : ready to be a spurs)
Mahinmi is still very raw and young. He fouled out in only 6min in his last game.
7 fouls in 6 mins of game time only? malik rose in the makin hahaha
No 5 in 6 mins. Young raw bigs who try to defend are almost always foul prone. It's not sure he will still be foul prone older.
