Cowboys sign coach Parcells through 2007
January 6, 2006
IRVING, Texas (Ticker) - Bill Parcells will do more than fulfill his original four-year commitment to the Dallas Cowboys.
The two-time Super Bowl-winning coach on Friday signed a contract with the Cowboys through the 2007 season.
Parcells was lured out of retirement by Cowboys owner Jerry Jones in January 2003, signing a four-year deal worth $17 million.

Dallas made the playoffs as a wild card in Parcells' first season, but failed to make the postseason each of the last two years.
"I feel very fortunate to continue what we have started here," Parcells said. "The Cowboys organization has been the fairest of fair to me, and hopefully I can repay them with an improved performance."
ESPN had reported that the 64-year-old Parcells was contemplating retirement, but he expressed his disgust when asked about it after a December 24 win at Carolina.
"You people in the media, I don't know where you get this stuff from," Parcells said.
The Cowboys lost four of their last six games to finish off a 9-7 season in 2005. One of those losses was an embarrassing 35-7 defeat at division rival Washington on December 18, giving the Redskins a sweep of the season series.
Dallas is just 25-24 under Parcells, including a playoff loss in 2003.
However, despite failing to make the postseason each of the last two years, the Cowboys are encouraged about the future after selecting defensive ends DeMarcus Ware, Marcus Spears and Chris Canty and running back Marion Barber in the 2005 draft.
"This is about continuity and building upon the pieces we have in place as an organization and as a football team," Jones said. "We aren't where we want to be at this point, but we're definitely moving in the right direction and feel very good about the future."
Parcells directed the New York Giants to Super Bowl les in 1986 and 1990 and the New England Patriots to a Super Bowl appearance in 1996. He also took the New York Jets to the AFC championship game in 1998.
Parcells ranks ninth on the all-time wins list with a record of 174-130-1, including an 11-8 mark in the playoffs.

This stinks...well for me, although it was pure bull , I knew the rumors of Parcells going back to the Jets with total control of GM Duties and a chunk of the franchise was not happening.
That was hope at least that maybe that dumb Terry Bradway was going to get axed finally, with Edwards gone Parcells would have come in and put in a new regime. Pure bull speculation, but I wished it was true, the Jets are the biggest joke in football, and I'm bout to say this current regime and boycott them and not watch them or the NFL till they're gone. Why would I want to watch either??? i don't give a rat's ass about anyone else, except maybe the Steelers and why watch the Jets continually go 5-11 and do nothing?
you woody Johnson and terry bradway![]()
