Over forty acres are burning in a major brushfire in North Central Bexar County along Bulverde Road and U.S. 281 in the lower Smithson Valley area. Several fire departments are on the scene to battle the wind-whipped wildfires.
Interview with Nearby Resident ‘Brenda’
The fire is near the Century Oaks, Fox Grove, Indian Springs and Smithson Valley subdivisions. Fire officials on the scene tell WOAI that the fires pose no immediate threat to homes in the area.
The windy, dry weather conditions will only help spread these fires.

I was out with a buddy of mine this afternoon and saw it when it started. It seems huge.
Should be a fun drive home.
I was going to run to Costco/Sonterra this evening after rush hour, but not now.
281 northbound in rush hour is bad enough, it must horrible tonight.
, that's real close to where my father-in-law lives. He lives right off 281 on smithon valley road.
Was there another fire around the west side this afternoon?
My buddy and I were off Military and Pinn and we saw tons of smoke coming from the east.
Was it the smoke from this far northside fire that we were seeing or was there another fire somewhere else?
It's a lot more south east from me than I thought at first.
Just called their house. They said the emergancy response has called them and told them they're fine right now, but to be prepared to leave. The fire is about 3 miles away from them. Good thing is the wind is blowing the opposite direction, so they should be fine.
Ok but the fire can still travel opposite of the wind. The wind is like blowing on it but as long as it has fuel it can spread...
That fire is pretty huge. Its nuts.

seriously, it was pretty close to where I live, but it was south of us.
My FD has been busy all day with that fire on 281N and Bulverde...I was going to go help tonight at midnight, but caught a 911 call that kept me busy till 3am....perhaps if it is still going, I grab some marshmellows and make it out there...
