I've never been skiing, but have always wanted to go.

Maybe I worded it wrong. It's supposed to read "AN exclusive region of colorado" duh..
My aunt *hit* a tree on the slopes and was in a coma for a month ... does that count?
I think that made me too chicken to even try ... I make awesome homemade cocoa, though.![]()

I definitely have a fear of the kennedy thing too. I'd probably chicken out the first or second time I tried to hit the slopes.
what he dropped himself out of a helicopter in the middle of nowhere?? Lol.
Skiing looks NUTS.
No thanks.....
An old roommate of mine wound up living out a soap opera story line thanks to a skiing accident. It was his senior year in high school, and he had finally gotten the courage up to ask out this girl that he had known and pined over for a good long while. He asked her out, she said yes, and things were going great, to the point where he felt like he was falling for her. They had been together for about 2 months when she and her family went on a ski trip for the holidays. She ran head long into a tree and suffered a concussion and forgot about three and a half months of her life, including the fact that she was dating my friend. My friend said that they were never really able to capture any of their old chemistry after that.
But it turned out for the best. The same guy got engaged about six months ago and is happier than ever. Any time anyone mentions skiing this is the first thing that jumps to mind. The second is the image of that German skier wiping out during the "agony of defeat" part of the ABC's Wide World of Sports promos.
WOW, ^^ lol, that does sound like something youd see one Kori's favorite show.
I used to ski a lot.
OUCH!!!!!
I've only been once since I sold my condo in Crested Butte about 5 years ago...I used to ski two or three weeks a year...I loved skiing the double diamond stuff up on the headwall...Unfortunately my knees can't take the pounding like they used to...I still have the ability to do it but my knees blow up by the second day...and I don't really like "slowing down" and cruising blues and trying to avoid the dentists...![]()
I will never ski because I hate cold weather, snow, and any kind of physical activity, besides sex.
Skiing is a blast. I would go all of the time if it was convenient. It's really not a very frightening thing at all, particularly if you stay in the middle of the runs, on the packed snow, and away from the trees. In the beginning, you fall a lot, but it's a very easy process to learn. And once you learn the basics, you don't fall down as much and know how to control your speed, so things are all good.
I'm trying to go in February, either to Utah or Colorado. I can't say that either place will be exclusive skiing like thispego is apparently getting, but even if I have to share it with the whole world, I still can't wait!!
Well i did one want to try that one of these days, but now i don't want to do that
ThisPego goes skiing once a year at ultra exclusive locales.
He never invites me, or mookie, ever.
I bet it's so fun. Plus you get drunk so easily at high al udes. Best of both worlds.
what kind of friend is that?
Ruidoso, NM is close enough to drive to and if it's your first time, it's not a bad place to start. Grab three friends, split the cost of a room/cabin and gas and you're there. Ski rentals (skis, boots and poles) can be as low as $10-12 per day. Lift tickets are the ones that will kill you at $51 a day but it's not a bad deal if you get a full day of skiing in. And if you haven't skiied before, you can pay for a group lesson (about $50) and they'll provide your first lift ticket free (basically a free lesson).
Here is the website - http://www.skiapache.com/
Ski during the day, jump in a hot tub to loosen the muscles (hopefully with company of the opposite sex) and hit the casinos at night. And there are some decent places to grab a few evening brews including a brewpub.
They opened their skiing season late (just last weekend) so some of their "first snow" specials are coming in later in the year than normal. $34 lift tickets until further notice and Inn of the Mountain Gods (biggest casino there) may be extending their own first snow special (http://www.skiapache.com/firstsnowskispecial.html) since the season started late.
You'll get a little spoiled once you ski someplace like Colorado but for your first times or if you just want to keep the cost down, Ski Apache fits the bill.

This is the best place in Oregon. Mt Hood Meadows is pretty good too.

SW, you won't run into trees on blue and green runs...unless you are a total doofus.
Besides, you can rent a helmet.
Definitely! I went to the University of Snowbird. err- Utah!Skiiing is great, but it sure made it difficult to make it to class back when I was an undergread. Fresh powder always won over class time.

I like Alta in Utah as well as Deer Valley.
Sun Valley Idaho is where we went last Spring Break and I loved that place.
I knew I would get a rise out of Jim with that one...
Unfortunately it's true...I hate dodging rookies...they are so erratic...you never know if they are going left or right because they don't know either......It sucks to be smoking down the hill at Mach 2 and have some idiot staring between his feet at his "teepee" turn right in front of you...
My buddy and I were scouting 3 day trips to Utah in Feb. for less than $500/person that included lodging at The Canyons, with rentals and lift tickets useable at Deer Valley and Park City as well, I think. It sounds like a winner to me.
Damn..thats a good deal...lift tickets alone at Deer Valley are $75 a day...Deer Valley has some great tree skiing on the right side...
