Suffolk Pregnant Woman Accused of Shooting Herself in Stomach
Suffolk Police have filed charges against a pregnant woman who was found shot in the stomach Thursday morning. Tammy Skinner is accused of shooting herself in the stomach, killing her unborn child.
The 22-year-old was due to give birth to a baby girl that day. The baby did not survive.
Skinner was taken to police headquarters around noon Tuesday, where she was charged. A $15,000 bond has been set.
Skinner is charged with causing an abortion, use of a fire arm in the commission of a felony, and filing a false report.
Illegally inducing an abortion is a class four felony, and is punishable by 2-10 years in prison and a fine of not more than $100,000.

What kind of person does stuff like this? It's seriously depressing to know that there are pregnant mothers shooting themselves in the stomach and 30 year old female teachers having sex with their 11 year old students...

She could probably have had it and dropped the baby off at the nearest fire station. As far as I know, Virginia has some form of the Baby Moses law. This is preposterous, that they are only contemplating charges of illegally inducing an abortion. This is murder.

That's what I don't get. If she was due that day, can't they charge her with murder? The baby was ready to be born.

That confuses me too... Also I am wondering if it has something to do with her maybe being crazy. After all she did potentially attempt to commit suicide by shooting herself. Maybe they are worried that if they charge her with murder then she can claim a psych defense.

Yeah, I was under the impression that if you illegally induce an abortion when the fetus is capable of surviving outside the womb that it was grounds for murder charges ... but apprently not so.

Man, that's one of the most ed up stories I've heard in a while. You know, also, for some reason I can't help but thing of couples that cant ever have children, then you have people like this that just flat out murder a child because they just don't want it.
