Pop will be only the 2nd NBA coach to get 500 victories all with one team, tonight against Dallas.

    Nice job, Pop.

Pop has also passed Pat Riley and moved into 4th all-time in regular season winning percentage:

    .714 Phil Jackson (861-345)
    .698 Billy Cunningham (454-196)
    .674 K.C. Jones (522-252)
    .671 Gregg Popovich (499-245)
    .663 Red Auerbach (938-479)
    .662 Pat Riley (1136-579)

And lest anyone try to run the "regular season" garbage about that mark, Pop is also 5th All-Time in postseason winning percentage:

    .717 Phil Jackson (175-69)
.636 Butch van Breda Kolff (21-12)
    .632 John Kundla (60-35)
    .629 Billy Cunningham (66-39)
    .627 Gregg Popovich (69-41)

He's also 10th in career playoff victories with 69. Winning two games in round 1 will push Pop past Don Nelson into 9th all-time in that category. If the Spurs reach the NBA Finals this year, Pop will move all the way up to 5th all-time, passing K.C. Jones, Lenny Wilkens, Jerry Sloan (assuming the Jazz don't make a long run), Chuck Daly, and Don Nelson.

    Yeah, it is Attles.

It's a bogus, made-up stat if you ask me.

Auerbach won 795 games with the Celtics, but also another 143 with Washington and Tri-State. Jerry Sloan has won 849 with Utah but also coached Chicago.

Most wins with one team is a more meaningful record. What difference does it make if you coached somewhere else?

Doing it with one team means you were around through the good, the bad, the ugly, the everything. It means you earned it more sticking it out with the same team.

    It means a lot more.

Not really. It means you didn't get fired. That's not your choice.

You think Pops 500 with the Spurs means more than Auerbach and Sloan's > 800 with the Celtics and Jazz?

If SA wins it all this year, and only loses 7 games( 4-1, 4-2, 4-2, and 4-2), Pop will move into 2nd place all time in playoff winning percentage.
