I'm going to have to agere with the sentiment already expressed. If a main award, other than Weisz, goes to anything other than Brokeback Mountain, Capote or TransAmerica, than I'll be completely shocked.

The film industry has made itself pretty clear.

    It's cry? U-S-GAY, U-S-GAY!

I think Phoenix and Witherspoon deserve the main acting awards with either Cras or Good Night and Good Luck landing the rest (after Weisz).

I'm watching it so I can actually participate in discussion for the rest of the week, with my sole source of entertainment comming from making fun at the endless stream of comedic abortions.

What's up with Charlize Theron's dress? I usually like what she wears, but the huge thing on her shoulder looks like a misplaced high school prom decoration.

Memoirs of A Geisha promotes divaism. I hope the production crew takes satisfaction in their work, because they certainly aren't helping matters for the male population.

It seems to me that the critics of Brokeback haven't actually seen the movie while the proponents don't really care if it's any good or not, just so long as it pushes the agenda. How can I tell if its actually any good?

The only best picture nominee I've seen was Crash, thought it was exaggerated to the point of ridiculousness and am willing to go out on a limb and say that it won't win.

How about watching it and forming your own opinion despite what critics say.

It doesn't look very interesting to me. Even if it wasn't about 2 dudes in love, its still about 2 people in love and the struggle to... love each other I guess. If my girlfriend forced me to watch it, I guess I would... but it has about as much appeal to me as "How Stella Got Her Groove Back" or "Under the Tuscan Sun."

I'm just looking for someone to come out and say... "I'm all for gay rights, but this movie sucked" or "I don't really care for the gay angle, but it was a great movie." Then I'll feel confident I have an untainted opinion.

Philip Seymour Hoffman deserved it, I think. The guy is an awesome actor, and he is finally getting recognized. I also like Terrence Howard, that guy is talented as !

Brokeback Mountain is a decent movie that was overhyped because of controversy. Very good performances, nice overall look, but an underwhelming story really.

That said, it was better than Crash, which just won in a huge upset...

... I had just typed up a nice paragraph about how Brokeback Mountain would be one of the "Best Picture" winners that are forgotten within ten years like Ordinary People or The Last Emperor. Crash, however, might be the worst Best Picture of all time.

The Troll Forum had it down.....I was 4 for 5!

Only the top film and actor and actress and supporting roles matter to me.

    Best Picture - Crash
Best Actor - * Philip Seymour Hoffman, Capote
Best Actress - Reese Witherspoon, Walk the Line
Best supporting actor - William Hurt, A History of Violence
Best supporting actress - Rachel Weisz, The Constant Gardener

No way was Broke Back better than Crash. The Academy got that one right on!

I'm really glad that Crash won. That is an awesome movie.

I wish Joaquin would have won also but I'm happy that Reese did win. The fact that they sang in the movie should have given them both the edge over anybody else. ah well... The only Oscar winning movies that I did see this year were Crash, Walk The Line and March of the Penguins. haha
