Derek Fisher on the team would be pretty hard to take- surely there are better options.
The ideal backup PG for the Spurs would be Derek Fisher.
A battle tested, solid veteran who can score AND defend. His salary is high for a backup PG, but noother player would contribute as he could for the Spurs. Warriors maybe interested in moving him since they overpaid for him, they have to play Monta Ellis more anyway. A package of Barry/Oberto and maybe Udrih (not necessarily) for Fisher and a filler maybe tempting for the Warriors.
Zarko Cabarkapa may be a diamond in the rough, a 6'11'' F with 3pt range (not a great defender) can be the filler. If the Spurs can pull this off, they then can bring Scola, offer Jumaine Jones the LLE, and maybe get a scrub C.

The enemy's called Dallas, Phoenix, Detroit, and Miami.
After seeing Mario Elie, Jerome Kersey and Robert Horry help the Spurs win championships, it doesn't matter. His contract's a though.
People really need to get over .4 - sign him up.
Is Fisher really that good? I never watch him play.
no, Fisher's contract is horrible.
If we trade for him, we will pay $7.35M a 35 years old Fisher in 2009-2010 !!!
It's not that Derek Fisher is the enemy. He did what everybody wants their team to do. He tried to win the game. He did make it, but it shouldn't have counted. That wasn't his fault. He didn't go to the NBA front office and tell them to count it, like that Ray Allen did about fining Bruce Bowen. We should hate David Stern because I remember the next like I think 2-3 days later I saw on ESPNews that Stern turned down the Spurs complaint that the clock didn't start right. Derek Fisher's good and I don't mind if he comes on over.
No way signing Derek Fisher is as heinous as it would have been to sign Malone.
dude the o was not the problem against the mavs
lack of a long 3 and lack of d going small
and duncan running out of gas in game 7
Here are the remaining years on Fisher's contract. He turns 32 in August.
06/07 - $5,880,000
07/08 - $6,370,000
08/09 - $6,860,000
09/10 - $7,350,000
No Thanks.
I don't know about all this signing vetran stuff. What about getting younger? Derek Fisher? .04? I'm over it..but he's not young. Next.
That's truly awful -- why didn't they dump him last summer under the Allan Houston rule?
Now THAT we can get pissed at Karl Malone. Did y'all see on the some sports news channels where it showed a game from a long time ago when Karl Malone elbowed David Robinson in the face? Karl Malone you are not welcome here!
Golden States depth chart:
Murphy/Foyle
Diogu/Biedrins/Taft
Dunleavy/Pietrus/Cabarkapa
Richardson/Cheaney
Davis/Fisher/Ellis/Bynum
I'd really like to get Monta Ellis but don't see that happening. I wonder if we could get Biedrins somehow? The teams would likely have to switch bad contracts in order to get something done though. I believe Dunleavy is still on the block but I don't think anyone really liked him here.
The way you describe Derek Fisher is the same way people described Nick Van Exel last summer, except Fisher has a huge contract considering his age and remaining skills.
No. He came from UALR, u of little rock arkansas.... and I've seen him play college and NBA live.
He just overrated. Always has been always will be. Has a y at ude but not much of one when it comes to putting up or shutting up. Said in a LR mall that "the .4 shot was lucky" and that "duncans shot before mine was clutch, he's been doing that all his career"
Has no class, no will to win anything. He feels like he has accomplished "it" all.
Trust me. Derek Fisher is on the reverse side of the toilet paper when it comes to being on a good team.
didnt the failed experiment of NVE teach you anything?
we dont need any more washed up has beens. We need to get rid of the ones we already have. We need more young athletic hungry players that just want to win!!!
Any mention of this should be an automatic delete. I'm surprised Kori hasn't configured that into the system
I have complete faith in Tony and Beno. No need to spend big time money on a backup PG when we have a solid PG that does the job required of him for under a $1 mill. Beno could be our backup for years to come so why trade the dude away.
Not a lot of players would consider signing with the Spurs as a backup PG because of Tony. Tony plays 35 minutes a night so that gives the backup some 13-15 minutes to work with. Not a lot of guys would accept that and certainly not Speedy.
Nazr for Duhon. Beno for anyone.
Derek Fisher had the best season in his career at the age of 31....trading barry and beno for fisher i would make in a second...fisher is a proven winner ...yes his contract is discomforting but we have barry's "discomforting " contract for 2 more years...whats another 2 years we will be over the cap regardless with tim manu and tony's increasing contracts
