    Minuteman Leader Pushes Border Fence
    By ARTHUR H. ROTSTEIN
    Associated Press Writer

    TUCSON, Ariz. (AP)
-- If the government doesn't build security fencing along the Mexico border, Minuteman border watch leader Chris Simcox says he and his supporters will.

Simcox, whose civilian watch group opposes illegal immigration, said Wednesday he was sending an ultimatum to President Bush to deploy military reserves to the Arizona border by May 25 or his supporters will break ground for their own building project.

"We're going to show the federal government how easy it is to build these security fences, how inexpensively they can be built when built by private people and free enterprise," Simcox said.
    AP

My, my and just in time for the today's Chertoff sponsored publicity stunt, Homeland Security raids on private businesses in Houston and other areas today.

So this is what the homeland security dept has been reduced too? Another, less-regulated, heavy-handed version of the U.S. border patrol? Ironically, leftist icon Ceaser Chavez used to be a proponant of tigher border control too. He felt that stimming the tide of illegal workers would lead to a rise in wages for the hispanics already here.

Globalist want open borders, racist and protectionist want to build a fence. For some reason, I don't think Simcox and the rest of his border bandits are too concerned with protecting the wages of Hispanics already in the U.S.., but then again, maybe I'm just being cynical.

He only says, "Good fences make good neighbors."
Spring is the mischief in me, and I wonder
If I could put a notion in his head:
"Why do they make good neighbors? Isn't it
Where there are cows? But here there are no cows.
Before I built a wall I'd ask to know
What I was walling in or walling out,
And to whom I was like to give offence.

Excerpt from Mending Wall, a poem by Robert Frost

    Check this out...

(CBS) CHICAGO Protesters are gathering to rally against a new round of raids on undo ented immigrants.

Numerous raids have left Chicago families without their loved ones, and this morning the government is talking about its new policy.

As CBS 2's Sylvia Gomez reports, Wednesday’s raids were the largest enforcement action in U.S. history by the Department of Homeland Security.

It is the culmination of a year-long investigation and nearly 1,200 immigrants were rounded up.
    CBS News

After a year-long investigation, costing probably millions of dollars, they nab 1200 illegals.

I could have done the job for $200.00 and a six-pack of beer.

Dude can't afford a proper holster - how is he going to pay for a 2000 mile fence?

racist and protectionist want to build a fence.
So anyone who is for border security is a racist? Protectionist? I guess a protectionist is everyone who doesn't want to see a nuke blown up on American soil by terrorists.

If that's the case, just call me a protectionist.

I'm not a protectionsist, I'm a realist. They ing dig tunnels 20 yards from our HUGE border stations near Tiajuana. I'm sure they'll stick with that successful formula. The fence will stop nothing. The only way to stop illegal immigration from Mexico is to overthrow the corrupt govt. and distribute most of the land. Nothing else will stop the crushing poverty cycle, and stopping that is the ONLY way to stop the flow over our border. You can pass all of the laws you want to, and put up whatever barricades you want, but until life in Mexico is better than life on the run in the US, they will NEVER stop coming.

Even a trillion dollars or so is a drop in the bucket against a system of race/class poverty created over the course of four hundred years.

Given the current inspection rate at U.S. ports, and the fact that in some parts up north you can walk from Canada to the U.S. without ever being stopped and inspected once, bringing in a bomb through Mexico would be ludicrous.

Holy ! Let's do it in the US too! Let's all just decide to be socialist after we basically fought a war for 50 years!

Man, I really miss the times when calling someone a Communist was like the biggest insult you could make.

The country was a better place.

The fence idea is ridiculous, but are we to simply let every individual into this country, regardless of the additional cost to provide them social services?

As for national security, I guess it won't matter until someone brings in a nuke across the border and detonates it.

In an era where personal property rights are such a huge issue, I'm curious about how the Minutemen are going to build fences across the property of landowners who are unwilling to consent. You won't convince me that every landowner along the Rio Grande is willing to support this idea. Assuming my belief is correct, are the Minutemen going to get the government (which won't build the fence) to condemn the property to build a fence? Are they going to build regardless of anyone's consent? Are they just going to leave gaps where they can't get consent? Are they just going to build it in the middle of the river?

It's politically expedient (in some corners) to say you'll build a fence; but, assuming for a second that a fence would be remotely successful in curtailing border crossings, the practical impediments to getting it done strike me as substantial.

Many will consent, forcing the Illegals to make their paths over the property of the landowners that don't consent.

Perfect insentive if you ask me.

I don't see how. Landowners who wouldn't consent to having a fence built across their property have (apparently) no problems with migrants crossing their land and have (apparently) significant problems with the Minutemen patrolling their properties. You might increase the traffic flow on those properties, but once the migrants are on the U.S. side of the fence, little exists to keep them on the properties of the landowners who are sympathetic to their efforts. Once the migrants make it across the border, through the gap in the fence, the traffic flow becomes pretty much like it always has been as the migrants will undoubtedly find secretive ways of proceeding into the United States without regard for property borders. I don't see how that creates any incentive for landowners to agree to have a fence built.
