I'll make sure to wash my car and water my yard tomorrow, that should guarantee rain.
why the would you want rain? is there a fire or seomthing
manny dont know about weather.
saw on the news that some nuns were actually doing some sort of rain ceremony/dance here in central texas due to the danger of drought.
OMG that made it to Austin.
Why, yes, yes it is...

It's been over 100 degrees the past week or so ... and when our aquifer gets to a certain level they start imposing water restrictions. And as much as I try to water my 1/2+ acre (which is expensive, btw), my lawn is getting pretty crispy.
And with the 4th of July coming, if we don't get enough rain they enforce a burn ban, which includes a $500 fine for shooting off fireworks. They hunt you down big time in Comal & Guadalupe counties, too...it didn't take them 15 minutes to find us on New Years, when there was a burn ban in place.

User better start saving up some $$.![]()
With as much stuff as we bought on New Year's, as well as how much his friend bought...we debated at quite some length as to whether or not we'd all chip in for the ticket if we got busted. It was tough.![]()
I am an old fart and I have NEVER seen it this bad. Our ranch is between Poteet and Devine and we have only had three inches of rain in the last YEAR. Everything is brown and dead. The electrical co-op replaced a powerpole at our place last week and drilled a 6' deep hole to set the new pole...the dirt was dry and dusty all the way to the bottom. Un ingbelievable just how dry it is...
That happened in SA.
They prayed at a well next to UIW.
Okay, I watered my dying rose bushes and left all the car windows down. We've done our part.
I'm another OF and agree. We're around 25 inches below normal in McKinney over the last 16 months. Not as dry as you have seen in Poteet, but given how much more rain we normally get in North Texas about as significant.
40% chance of rain here Saturday and Sunday, but I'm not going to hold my breath. We've had too many 50%-70% chances without a drop already this year. A lot of areas east, north, and south have seen rain that has bypassed us completely.

That drought monitor is very cool.
Also very scary for the Southwest.
A lot of the SW should be helped out when the annual late summer monsoon hits. They don't get a whole lot of rain to begin with, a couple of inches and they'll be OK. It's a desert ecosystem.
The valley, on the other hand ... it's pretty scary when you start hoping for tropical systems to hit the relatively uninhabited south Texas coast to get rain, but that's what it's come to with summer upon us.
And also I might add, it helps ease the cooling of our homes .... and keep our damn utility bills less than our mortgage.
It is bad. However, this means that we are going to get severe weather when we do get rain. I don't know when that will be, but when its dry like this for a long time, it means some severe weather is coming. I hate that. I like the rain. I hate that it dirtys the car and that it gets all muddy, but water provides life.
I still think the drought is gonna break soon. The mesquite trees down south don't have a very big bean crop this year and the prickly pear have fewer apples than normal...both are indicators of a reasonably wet year to come...
LMAO . . . Manny gives us the computer algorithmic predictions are high-love-overfront gobblespeak.
CC gives us the Rancher's Almanac and prickly pears.
