Avery giving up defense last series is what will hurt the Mavs
Stuck with their regular season lineup and are crushing Dallas at the offensive end.
What a novel ass ing concept.
Avery giving up defense last series is what will hurt the Mavs
lets see what happens in game 2 when adjustments are made before patting yourself on the back
Mavs bigs might as well pull up a chair in front of the big screen....They won't be able to handle this series...
rebounding is not a strong suit for suns usally
Dampier is the worst of all the bigs to play in this series. Diop might have a chance in short minutes. Thank God we got Griffin to guard Marion.
The point is that instead of saying 'oh , we gotta ditch our system for an entire series to try to match up', D'Antoni said 'we're going to play our way and see if you can beat us.'
I remember when Pop used to say the same.
Actually, you can make an argument that they play even a smaller, quicker line-up that Dallas did in the last series. Not to say this will continue this way, but Dallas may have to match them with an even smaller line-up to adjust.
Is this the team that played us. They are playing like tight soft pussies. Looks like Cubie didn't pay up for this game.
And I'll also argue we beat a Phoenix team similarly built last year playing *gasp* two seven footers. But hey, that four guards thing worked out great for us against Dallas.
Anyone know Tim and Pop's tee time this morning?
key is D'antoni is making Avery change in normal rotation. Damp/Diop will be completely useless in this series. When it rains, it pours. Threes will be raining early and often
Stern smells Heat/Suns, and it smells like cotton paper
Pop was already saying last season, paraphrased, "we can run and gun, we can slow-down, we can whatever game you want to play" It's a boast that the Spurs are good at different styles and paces of game,
... which is OK when you can do it and win, but that approach always seemed somewhat weird to me.
Why can't the Spurs control the game, ever?, in the way how the Spurs want, rather than always adapting to what the other team is doing?
vs Mavs, I think the problem with the Spurs playing 2 bigs was that the non-Tim big wasn't scoring, wasn't defending, wasn't rebounding in way that a serviceable big should do. ie, Spurs' bigs next to Tim just suck.
Spurs playing big vs Mavs small would have had disadvantages which just weren't offset by the Spurs bigs. ie, Spurs non-Tim bigs suck. aka, a weak front line.
35 points in the first quarte, what awesome "defense"
The Beauty of our defeat to Dallas is that we don't really truely know how our starting really would have fared. It's a genius move by pop. He stuck with small ball so long that it would have been stupid to change it so late.
Rack the Pop.
We could have done the same by posting them up time and again in the lane and killing their shorter players.key is D'antoni is making Avery change in normal rotation. Damp/Diop will be completely useless in this series
The Spurs only played 'two bigs' for a grand total of 27 minutes, that's *27* minutes, the entire series. How can you even make that judgment?vs Mavs, I think the problem with the Spurs playing 2 bigs was that the non-Tim big wasn't scoring, wasn't defending, wasn't rebounding in way that a serviceable big should do. ie, Spurs' bigs next to Tim just suck.
Further, what makes you think that Nazr/Rasho couldn't have matched the incredibly meager contributions of Robert Horry in that series?
CBF your pistons ain't looking too good right now. Rack the Flipper
It is the Mavs turn to adjust on their opponents speed and size.
hey i changed it to give detroit karma
i want them to own mavs
and i hate the suns
The Better Team will prevail in 7 games, duh.
I wonder if there will be any ing by the teams, coaches, commentators about the refs in this series like there was in the Spurs/Mavs series. Or will the refereeing magically become transparent now that the Spurs are eliminated?
Spurs defense:
Regular season: 88 PPG
Regular season against the 'small ball teams' - Phoenix and Dallas: 93.8 PPG (5-3 record for the Spurs)
Dallas series: 110 PPG (3-4 record)
Yay for small ball!
I tried watching this game, but I can't. Seeing these Dallas players makes me sick to my stomach.
Rack nothing.
Firts: if you believe Pop did the right thing by not playing a center and playing small ball. Then I can say Pop is responsible for getting two crappy, useless centers that didn't do anything to help the team in the most important series of the year. Why get players if they aren't good enough to hit the floor in the playoffs?
Or you can say Pop screwed up by playing small ball and trying to match up with the Mavs and ended up losing anyways. Either way Pop messed up by either playing a style that wasn't best suited for the team he built or getting players that weren't good enough for the only style of play that he thought had a chance to beat Dallas. Either way Pop messed up. So rack nothing.
